Well anyways, I replaced the presilencer with a straight pipe today. It definitely felt like it wants to rev up more. And it's definitely louder

I also found out that the bolt that holds the distributor down was loose - for some reason the thread has stripped - and so the engine vibration effectively moved the dist, retarding the ignition! I readjusted it and advanced it back to what is supposed to be, and it gained some power back from that. After all that I went to visit a friend. And at a stop light, what do I find? 2 playas in a coupe Honda Accord, slightly raced out (exhaust, lowered). I smile inside as I know that even though they weren't even looking, they were gonna go. Sooooo I get ready, and at the green I actually took off normal, you know, rev to 2k rpm and gradually release the clutch. Then I hear the Honda revving up fast thru 1st and I think it's on biatch. So I gun it and we go. Wind up 1st, we're even, shift to 2nd, start walking away. Shift to 3rd, and I'm jogging away lol. So I shut down, and let them catch up. At least they were good playas, when the caught up they were both smiling and giving me a thumbs up like this . It was kinda funny. I Smiled back and went my way, thinking, yeap, definitely feels more powerful.

Hondahater... a 97 prelude is a 5th gen, not a 4th gen.

So the guy has a 2001 SH (5th gen). Fortunately for you the 5th gen ludes are slower than 4th gens. Yes they have the same motor but with little differences. A 4th gen H22 will always run a little faster and dyno a little more hp, than a 5th gen.

Unsupa.. like I said before, 5th gen's are slower than 4th gens, so why is it ok now to be unashamed? I'm not saying he should be ashamed.. he shouldn't, but I don't get ur reasoning is all.

 

5th gen slower than 4th? so if the 5th gen does 0-60 in about 7 secs, what does the 4th gen do?

 

On paper the 5th gen should be faster, it has supposedly more hp.. but in reality, the 4th gen is slightly faster. A general average, a 4G Vtec runs 14.9 and a 5G runs 15.1, now of course there's variances in everything, but the fastest I've seen a stock 4g run is 14.7, a 5g 14.9... so again a 2 tenths diff. I couldn't give you a 0-60 number, but that should give you an idea of the difference between them. It's not too big, but noticeable.

 

If I was gonna compare a 1st gen rx-7 to a 4th gen prelude I would compare the GSL to the SI version and the GSL-SE to the SI-Vtec version.

I'm only saying that because I know my car can take a stock prelude si...

 

That's what i'm saying... you can't compare a 4th gen Vtec to a stock or even moderately modded 12a. They just aren't the quickest engines stock, but have great potential. I have nothing but love for RX-7's, but everyone needs to admit they're not too quick without major mods.

 

that's how i felt when i rode in the 'lude. stock for stock my basev7 would get murdered.. I know the lude isn't super fast, but compared to the 1st gen it's gonna take a good amount of mods to keep up. that's all i was saying, perhaps with the wrong words.

 

Well, I can take a stock GSL-SE any day of the week. In fact, I can take and have taken a slightly modded SE, as in headers and no cats to an aftermarket muffler.

Hey, I ran an 89 or so Prelude yesterday. I was just cruising around town minding my own business and came up behind this guy. It was fixed up nice: new paint job, nice wheels, large exhaus(you can tell it was an HKS or equiv.) Well, anyway I saw him look in his mirrors at me at the redlight so I revved mine up just to say "hi". He nods. Then, the light turns green and he takes of "normal" so do I. Then, all of a sudden, he guns it. I wasn't about to let this guy show me up so I floor it. Probably already at 3k when I floored it. I layed in to all the way to 4th gear(til we got to another redlight) Point of my story is he didn't pull away from me and I didn't really gain on him so I say it was a dead even match. Should I have beaten him? Hope to see him again sometime to ask what his mods are.

PS-still haven't installed a K&N yet (even though my sig. says so) just paper for now.

 

The 1989 Preludes came with 2 different 2.0L engines, and they have exactly the same hp than a 12A and a 13B, 104 and 135 hp. Isn't that funny.

 

Yeah. I was reading up on the same specs. It would be cool if I found out his is the SI (135hp) and my 12A stayed with him. Interesting that the SI's were also 4WS...wonder how THEY handle.

I hate that GEN specifically because of a particular owner in LA.

Just try to ask his mods, cuz i know their fast, and it looked nice. The he tells me," Just run it already" then I respond with," alright lets lets these cars move up a lil"

Then we go from a roll in 1st, I jump. Shift 2nd he gaining a half a car, but slowly, and im only 1/2 throttle. Still behind me and theres a car infront of him so I see hes not letting off and If i continue my pace I be boxing him in and I KNEW he bust an irratic manuver...so I let off a lil and he pulls all the way to the rear bumper of the car in front of him then (not suprised) he cuts me off sick then bolts out infront of me.

Then slow down at a light and he says, " I WON".

ME: Bitch I let you pass, I wasnt gonna box you in and let ur dumb *** crash.
