power windows conversion
I have a 1985 gsl and have got power window motors and parts from another 1984, I cannot get them to fit inside the door cell. Do i have to replace the door itself? or is ther a way to put these in that i may have overlooked?????
Door cell? You must have the entire assembled window regulator to make the swap. To get it out of the door it must be completely colapsed and will slide in the larger hole towards the latch side of the door.
door conversion
I got the assembly in the door - thanks for your help!!
But the motor on the new power window assembly seems to be in the way of the window coming down. i have tried different positions but it seems that the door is too narrow somehow, does anyboby converteded from standard windows to power windows before? I have mounted the new assembly as the old one but the motor is too far inside to allow the glass to come down into the rail properly.

It CAN be done. I don't know how, but it can be done without swapping doors. In the past,I had a friend of mine do the swap to his 85 GS, and it worked perfectly.
He did it in one long afternoon.

I put power windows from a gsl-se into my 83 gs so I know it can be done. It is a bolt in process. You have to remove the whole window regulator assy and replace it with the power window one. I don't think it is possible to bolt the electric motors to your manual regulators. It's not hard at all to do the swap, the hardest part was making the -se door panels fit my 83. Most of the screws are the same but I had to drill a couple in the doors because the -se door panels have a few more fastning points. The great part about this is from the factory the wiring is already installed in the car, just had to hook it up.
good luck

I converted the other way (for simplicity and weight reduction), and it seemed very easy. But the two definitely mount in different location. Try every bolt hole arrangement possible and you're bound to get it eventually. Good luck. (If you have a digi, take some pictures and make a write-up too)

I did the conversion a while back when I had a parts car, but they only worked good for a short while then would need an adjustment (I may need new tracks). I'll be going back to manual cranks once I locate a pair. Anyone wanna work out a trade for my power windows stuff?
