power windows

I am thinking of installing power windows on my '85, it currently has manual windows. Has anyone done this? What are the pros and cons?

Thanks for any input.

I was just about to ask the same question. I wanted to also know how to do this, i.e. what parts are needed, etc.

Keep the manual windows, the power ones are slow and will get stuck and come off the rails in no time.

I need to get new window channels soon. Last time I took a co-worker home, M&#%#%Fo[l<eR slammed my door so HARD, I was about to go outside and whip his @$$. I was so pi$$ed... when I got home to roll the pwr windows up it was out of alignment.... damn!.. extra 10 mins of work...

So stock power windows are, lets say, less than desirable but what about aftermarket units?

there not very good. the switches fail after awhile which means you gotta take them apart and sand down the contact points until shiny again. i would keep manual.

I like power windows. Once you lube 'em up & clean the contacts and swithches, they're good for a loooonng time!

Well one of mine tangled up the weatherstripping and doesn't move too well and before I lubed the other it took about 30 seconds and about 3 tries to get it all the way up.

They work great if they're maintained properly.

Weight is bad, and those are really heavy motor assemblies.
But in my experience the manual ones are pretty unreliable, too.

Best bet is to get some complete factory power-window doors out of junkyard and lube them up, then paint your car.

I changed mine out last summer, and they work just fine. If you want instructions, drop me an email. Make sure to lubricate the tracks and mechanisms.

My car just went in for a service and they serviced the power windows and now the work great. They are as fast as the ones in our other cars. Well maintained power windows are fine
