Power steering, its growling at me!

I know that that means its low on fluid. But what about when it growls randomly. For instance, it starts off fine, then growls, then gets waaaaay worse, then gets fine again after a while.

Next timei start it up,its fine again (after its had a chance to cool down).

I looked beneath it, and it IS leaking fluid. Should i just check all the connectios to make sure they are on there right?

Or should i take the power steering off?

Peace
Geoff

check the hoses for leaks and check the reservour if is crack too. i had that problem too and it was the crack resevour. you can fix that with JB weld. and dont take it off. if you going to take the PS off buy a non PS streering box. is a pain to turn with no PS in a PS steering box.

yeah, "Found On Road Dead" vehicles are very notorious for their noisy PS pumps, and they're not very smooth either, you can almost feel notches in the system that the steering wheel fits into in some vehicles...

My power steering started to make that growling noise also and I had 3 leaks in the tank and hose. The part new is very expensive ($900) but I got a remanufactured one for $355 and had it put on. The first one they put on did not work so the mechanic had to do twice the work to get paid once. This was an expensive fix. Hope you are not like me and are more mechanically inclined. The leaking was very bad. I have been told that if you have to add power steering fluid to your tank then you better look for a leak. Good luck.
