Power shortage

For some time now it seems as if the car isnt getting enough juice. If i try to put one or both windows up or down at the same time, they crawl to a near stop, yet they do fine one at a time. At night, i can notice the lights pulsing and dimming when i turn on a turn signal. When stopped, the lights dim then get brighter as i accelerate. I replaced the alternator 2 years ago and i trust the part scource. What could be wrong? I go through batteries pretty fast as well. Any ideas?

Its a 1984 GSL. Ive looked at the cable...ill try going to pepboys and getting some new cables. It just seems odd though that it would do that because of a cable. COuld it be a ground somewhere?

I fixed a lot of problems like those on my '82 just by dissassembling wiring harness connectors, cleaning the terminals, and reassembling. ESPECIALLY the power windows.

I would definitely replace the battery cables. And I would suggest upgrading to a second gen alternator. It solved similar problems on my 80. Plus it will allow you to run newer technology, i.e. foglights, and amps.

If you get a second gen alternator, is it just bolt on? Do you got to fabricate anything or is it something i could do?

Yeah, I'm interested in the 2 gen alt install on a 1 gen as well. Is it a sraight install or do you have to do some extra tinkering to get it to work?

There is more to it than just bolting the alternator in. You'll need to machine the spacer down or use washers when you use your bracket. I don't have it here at work so call this number to reach Chris or Ari at Rotary Performance. They may be able to ship you a good used 2ndgen altrnator if they have some lying around BUT they'll definitely be able to give you the correct way to splice the "new" connector to your wires so you don't burn out the alternator.
