Powder coated windshield molding pics

Before and after pictures. Looks great and should last a long time.

Right on.

They charged $75 for the powder coating and I think another $15 to sand blast everything off. Seemed reasonable to me, and powder coaters are few and far between and around here, so I just went with it. They look great in person, I couldn't be more pleased - I used a semi gloss black. I also had the door handles and hatch hinges done, as well as the large bottom windshield trim piece which I didn't photograph.

Hopefully these will be far more resistent to fading and peeling than the Mazda paint on chrome method.

Right on.

One caveat though...on the ends of the trim pieces you will find some rubber coating or molding where the trim pieces meet each other. I tried to remove it but it was so dry and brittle it was impossible. It obviously doesn't survive the oven. I purchased some of that plasti-coat rubber stuff that you can use to rubberize your tools. I'm going to paint some of that on and see if that will do the trick.

The rest of the small seals you can remove, and Mazda still sells the one's for the top molding.

Right on.

Man that looks great. I love it. Those before pictures were pretty beaten up... Can't have beaten up molding with a nice new repaint!

Get em off

They' look great! Did you take the trim pices off? If' so how, did you need a special tool? and how difficult was it?

Put up pics after you get them back on... Is there a noticeable difference in thickness on them with the powder coating?

It might have added some thickness to them as compared to fading paint, but I don't think it's consequential in any fashion.

As for getting them off, it's part of a restoration project - the body shop took them off, or maybe it was the glass co. they subbed out, not sure. There are six clips that hold the side pieces on that will break - order them from Mazda or VB.

Right on.

VB's moulding clip kit sells for $8.95 (84-85) or $9.95 (79-83) and appears to have the complete set.
Dunno what Mazda charges.
During the winter, I plan to refinish my moulding as well.
Those look very good

yeah, those look great!

the person who owned my 7 before me painted the side windshield mouldings with a paintbrush. they looked like wood.

I think eastwood sells a powdercoating kit so you can do it yourself. I just did mine with semi- gloss paint though. It's cheaper.
