Possible to remove demister from hatch?

Is it possible to remove the demister copper (or what ever it is) from the rear hatch with out scratching the glass?

If so how......acid or something?

The demister isn't even wired up, even if it was i would have of only had to use it once in the past year so i think it had may aswell come off.....a bit of weight reduction!

hmm... I thought it was actually in the glass. It may be possible. Try Silver Nitrate, if it's on the outside. It reacts with the copper, dissolves it. It's expensive, though, but you'll have a bunch of silver at the end to make a rotor emblem or something.

There may be another method, but I know for a fact that silver nitrate will dissolve copper. (did it in high-school chemistry)

I used a razor blade to remove most of it to tint my window. worked for 3 windows so far and no window scratches. There does seem to be something thin still inside the glass, but once tinted you can't see it.
