Heh,heh......youll have to excuse our "unique" sense of humor around here.

Since its your first post, and you didnt ask about putting a TII engine into your 1st gen like everyone else does,Ill give you a bit of insight.....

Yes,you can turbo an N/A 12A engine without any internal modifications. The 12A had the larger, tougher 3MM apex seals, and most rotaries have low compression ratios,so they can be lightly boosted when using N/A rotors. The 12AT and 13BT engines are more suited for forced induction, but the N/A engines arent that much different internally, and can be succesfully boosted so long as you exercise restraint.
Of course, you will have to adress some issues when turboing the 12A,as with any N/A engine.Youll need to limit maximum ignition advance, install a bigger fuel pump, kick the ignition voltage up a notch, open up the exhaust system, and since the 12A is carburated youll need to modifiy the carb to be boost friendly. Its a bit more work than when boosting an EFI engine, but Id say the 12A is more tolerant of boost than the D16 you mentioned.Ive seen the results of boost on those engines, and its not a pretty sight at all.
The 12A is pretty damn tough,6-8psi should be fine, you just have to set it up right(timing, mixture, thermal management)......and be sure the engine is in good shape, before you start cranking up the power. You should see about 150-170HP with that setup, along with a healthy amount of torque that was never there before. The smallish ports will be holding you back after that.

main thing in a turbo wankel is tuning......or so ive heard. The first gen 13b also had 3mm apex seals.
