Porting suggestions for a porting newbie

So I have an extra 12a sitting here at the house with aprox. 140,000 miles. The other day I inspected it and all 3 seals are intact and seemingly unstuck on both rotors. It puts out some nice little poofs and the guy I picked it up off of said he had it running on starter fluid for a minute so I know it runs on both rotors.

Basically, I just want a little project after I get the 12a that's currently in the car to run reliably (replaced FPR and hooked up vacuum advance, runs MUCH better).

-What type of port would you recommend?
-Who gives the best deal on templates?
-What parts should I replace while I have the engine apart (I've torn down two 13b's). Housings and rotors should be good.
-What does a new soft seal/gasket kit run for the entire motor and where do you suggest I buy from (best deal for good parts)?
-Replace the apex seals? If so with what kind and where should I buy?

The car will be street driven at least a couple days a week. I don't mind an idle upwards of 1500 RPM. I want to keep at least most of the low end power for hill climbing etc. I'm not aiming for a million horsepower. Maybe 15-20 extra HP and a few hundred extra RPM on my red line perhaps?

Car is currently running a pretty free flowing exhaust and Weber 45DCOE carb with emissions and unneeded engine parts removal.

Or would you just say don't waste your time and buy a 13bt swap for it?

Go 13bt swap, more power.

If you are wanting to do some porting, sounds like you would want a street port.

Templates are found anywhere, prices generally vary 5-10$. Or you can design your own for free.

Get a master rebuild kit, it will come with everything you need and will have all the things you should replace. I am not a fan of re-using anything other than housings/irons/rotors and the like. Seals are the life of your engine, no point to put warn out seals in.

RacingBeat, Atkins, Pineapple, are a few places that come to mind where you can pick up these things. Best part is after you get her ported and put together, you don't have to replace anything that you already have, like the carb or exhaust.

if you wanna have fun porting, go for a bridgeport.

I would replace all soft seals including the oil control orings

It's just an extra engine. I could keep it for if this one pops. I just thought it might be a fun learning experience and something to be proud of myself for doing if I could do a cheap rebuild/port on it. I've played with FCs for a few years now so I'm very familiar with 13bs and swapping them (not into an SA or FB though...).

For swappin a 13b into a 12a car, just use a GSL-SE oil pan and the front cover, or you can use the 12a front cover if you plan on premixing.

As for porting, if it were me, I would go bridge, cause to me if it is already open, then why not?

Judging by what you want, you would be better off going streetport. You pick up a few ponies and still maintain a sub 1000rpm motor. If you want more power, talk to Judge Ito about his Judgeport. It is a huuuge streetport he made, that still idles well and has a ton of readily available power.

I'm premixing both of my 7's. I have an extra 12a cover in my pile o' parts I could use. What are the differences between s3 13b oil pan and s4 13b oil pans? They just don't clear the front member? I know the mounts are different on the 12a via the front cover and all.

Does the 12a trans bolt directly to the s4 13b? Then I just have to find a new spot for the oil cooler line?
