Ported?
Can someone supply me with a picture of a streetport? I'm beginning to get suspicious that my motor is streetported for a few reasons.
1. People with WAY more mods than me are getting what, to me, seems slow.
All I have is a poor rat's nest removal (vacuum problem still persists) and a RB system (head to tail). People like IanS and CDRAD seem to have 9 second or so 0-60 with high pressure fuel pumps and all kinds of nifty stuff.
I beat a convertable Mustang V6, which is supposed to get a 0-60 time of 8.6. By my logic, my upgrades are worth less power than theirs, and I'm getting better 0-60 times?
2. There is a receipt in the glovebox for ENG RBD MODIFICATION to the amount of something like $1300.
I was told to check, I just have to take off my intake and see what the ports look like, but I have no clue what I'm looking for!
I still say I shouldn't have beat that V6 stang with my setup and a stockport, hands down.

v6 convertable mustangs are both slow and heavy. A friend of mine into mustangs have described them to me as "the slowest mustangs ever", but maybe the 4 cyls were worse..
Anyways, there is really no pic to show you that would say "this is a streetport", since you cant exactly see the ports cleary even with the intake off. You should feel them out and compare it to a known stock port, or just take the engine apart.

Well, I don't have a stockport to compare to, and right now dissassembly isn't really an option
I'm not saying V6 stangs are GOOD, but, they have a better 0-60 and 1/4 mile than our cars stock, so, yeah.

Yeah, well as stated, I smoked a few of em stock ported as well. What you need to do is take off the EXHAUST. Look into the runners, and imagine a grage door closing down from the top. There should be a look as if the door is about 3/4 of the way closed. A ported engine will have a bigger opening, thus making it look like the door is open further. I hope that kind of makes sense as I dont have any pictures to post I dont think. Ill dig around and see what I can find for you.

EDIT: You could also call or contact the shop the reciept is for and ask them what it means...

This is a picture that I got from a friend here on the forum when I was learning about porting engines and thinking about doing one myself. This is his street ported rotor housing. Granted, its looking at it from the wrong side (inside the engine to the outside), but it should give you an idea of what the difference is from stock (obviouslly smaller) to street ported.

just chuck it on the dyno, easier to work out if its been ported coz the power will be about 120+ rwhp
or.. just strip the engine... and if it isnt ported... what a perfect opportunity to get it done :P

you could also run your finger inside the intake ports. chances are if they feel really, REALLY smooth, then it's likely to have been ported. if it's textured, then it's probably stock. as stated before, it doesn't really take muck to beat a V6 Mustang, so it doesn't mean you're necessarily ported.

Thanks for the replies. I'll pull off the EXHAUST tomorrow (I'm pretty sure that IanS told me to take off the Intake, but, hey, I get confused )

ROFLMAO,
i was waiting for that!!
p.s. v6 mustangs are slow, ive beaten them buy 1-1/2 car lenths and the dude had a full exhaust(headers and all) and an CAI (sounded pretty mean.)

Well, as an update, my fingers fit into the whole. Didn't seem to smooth in there, and they came out sorta black, but they fit.
I suppose this means I'm ported?

After MY there was supposed to be the word UNCLES. I'll have him look tomorrow
It's currently at my uncle's house because he wanted to see some stuff on it, so, he did the test for me. And his fingers sure aint small!

Also, you need to remember, that there is a "shelf" in there. Think about a tunnel 3" long, and at 1.5" in theres that garage door I was talking about blocking most of the tunnel. Just because the fingers fit in a little bit, doesnt mean that its actually ported. You need to see to the actual exit from the housing, I hope this makes sense.

EDIT: Heres a picture where you can BARELY see what Im talking about. The exhaust hole is, oh lets say, 2" in tall, but the stock port is only say 1" tall . The idea behind street porting exhaust is to basically move the top edge of the exhaust port up, thus making the stock port the same size as the exhaust hole. In this picture, look in the exhaust hole of the far right rotor housing. See how at the very top of the exhaust hole you can see the top edge of the stock port? When the engine is street ported, that wont be there so the port is the same size as the hole, or it will be MUCH smaller. Are you following me?
