Popular Mechanics picture

Jay Leno writes a car article for Popular Mechanics every month. In the latest issue (March 2006) there is a picture of him (page 57) sitting in front of a Cosmo reading an owner's manual written in Japanese. The owner's manual has the inside of a rotary engine on the cover. There is nothing in the article about Mazda or the rotary, but I thought the picture was pretty cool.

Probably 10a, and knowing Jay's collection, the whole thing is probably rebuilt to perfection!

Yep. One of the guys from Mazdatrix confirmed this in the "Other Rotary" section.

Just keep up in that forum and you'll see stuff like this all the time.

I'm not surprised that the 10a couldn't be restored. Those engines haven't been available in 30 years and replacement parts have long since dried up.

Why is this subject in the first-generation RX-7 section of the forum anyway? (no offence, but I wonder)

Because it's interesting, and I wanted to share it with my 1st gen friends. There are always threads that aren't specifically 1st gen related (see the current "What is the rarest or most unusual rotary?" thread) but people get to know each other here and want to interact with each other.

Just my $0.02.

This is correct, Dave at Mazdatrix rebuilt the 12A, but I understand Jay has since then swapped, or is thinking of swapping, in a 13B!

Almost all the other sections of the forum are more strict about this than Carl and I are in here. For a very long time, the 1st gen section had no moderators at all. When Carl and I started moderating the section we decided to let some small degree of off-topicness slide, because we found it let people share stories about themselves and interesting things they've found. It builds a sense of community.

We do read the posts though.. so don't go crossing any lines
