Points Distributor Ignition Coil Question

Hey all.

Sorry for the simple question, but I was curious and confused about stock 1979 ignition coils. I just purchased a points dizzy for my 79 which also came with two sets of coils. The coils, however, are all labeled as 12v and say “Use with transistor ignition”, which tells me these are for the electronic dizzys only (which is the system that came in the car when I got it). Everywhere I look online, these are the only OEM 1st generation coils I can find.

If I’m understanding the function of the resistors correctly, they’re taking the battery’s 12v and downgrading it to 9v, and if that’s the case then I feel like there would be an issue with using a 12v coil which would only receive 9v.

Also, I can’t find pictures or info anywhere online about what the 9v coils for a 79 look like or what their model number is, but in the Hayne’s manual, for a 79 it says the coil model is “LB-84” which is what I have (the ones that say “use with transistor ignition”). Hopping onto Atkins, I noticed they have separate ignition coils for 74-79 and 80-85. So, do I need coils that are labeled as 9v, and if so where can I find them aside from Atkins? Or can I use the LB-84 12v coils?

Thanks,
Pascal

I think if you were to use the 12V non-resistor coils with a points system, the resistors will burn out.

RockAuto has some.

More Information for SPECTRA PREMIUM C632 (rockauto.com)

Text from one of the coils listed on RockAuto

"12 Volt (Universal Coil) used with external resistor or where resistance wire is an integral part of wiring harness."
