I do not know but most cars have them. My best guess is that for ease of production/cheapness that there is only one harness for one type of car and it has all the connectors ever possibly needed. but I have had cars with all the options and they had unused connectors. another guess that when assembeling the things they use these connectors to test stuff? or maybe just for technitions to test this stuff at the dealership?

Just an opinion

In working on my car I have found SO many plugs and wires that go nowhere and do nothing. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

yayarx7 hit the nail on the head. If you look at the tail area of your trans tunnel, there's even wires to hook up to an automatic transmission that most of us don't have and definitely want!

When I have the money to but a new car, and I step into the Mazda dealer and order my RX-8, If it doesn't have three pedals, I'm going to kill someone.

OOPS! I meant don't want! The current '80 body I have now was an auto car and I converted it to a manual. I tossed the auto tranny into the hatch area of the totaled '79 and sold the whole mess to a salvage yard. I really wish there was an aftermarket kit that mimicked the Ferrari's F1 paddle setup...truly, that would be the ultimate way to shift.
