i still cannot find those damn wires. is it possible the could be under the center console instead of the shift boot

i finaly found those wires (or one side of them)and they are not connected to anything and it still has the same problem.

Do the wires you found look like these? The black wire has red markings and the red wire has blue markings (this is for the 84 GSL). And there is a white plastic connector that probably is meant to connect to the transmission. Everything should be unplugged if you have a manual transmission. If you are sure these wires aren't causing your problem you may have to do some more detective work, with the Haynes manual, like darkfrost suggests.
