Please Help

Hey guys I hope you can give me a hand with this I really will appreciate it. I lost the keys to my 1979 rx-7. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas or if anyone has a scrap rx-7 that will be willing to sell me the door cylinders, ignition cylinder, with the keys. I live near the Toronto area in Ontario. I really appreciate your help. thanks alot.

It's already been said before, but a locksmith can rekey it with no problems (cheaper then replacing the locks). The ignition key assemby comes off really easy on a 79.

Try posting this in the Canadian Section. Not a huge amount of 1st gen owners, but there are quite a few members in the Toronto area, some who know which junkyard have 1 st gens in them....

Actually Roundabout is right. If forgot about that option. I just had to do it for my Explorer. See the dealer with your VIN. Only problem is that sometimes keys cut to the exact brand new pattern don't work as your ignition switch gets worn. That's what happened on my Explorer - the doors work fine, but the "perfect" key won't work in the ignition...

or... take out 6 screws i believe on your rear hatch panel. this might be different for sa's kuz i have an fb but for me i took out that back panel and got access to the hatch lock cylinder which is the easiest to pull out (there is just a clip holding it in place). i took it out and took it to a locksmith and had them rekey my car by using that lock cylinder. it works for my ignitio and all of my door locks. becareful when taking out the lock cylinder tho... dont wanna break anything. take pictures if you have to to remember how it goes back together.

OR take apart your passenger door panel and look at the passenger lock cylinder for a 4 digit key code and tell the locksmith the code and they can decode it to make you a new key. i tried hat but couldnt find the code. took out the hatch lock cylinder in less than 5 min. good luck

Also, the 79 fuel door lock is really easy to get at.

yea but the fuel door lock is a universal one. meaning that any blank mazda key will fit and turn it. the hatch has the proper combination for the locksmith to rekey your car. or take a look at the passenger lock cylinder for the 4 digit code and have a locksmith decode and make you a new key. i lost my original key. pissed the hell out of me. i love original rx7 everything. these dam small keys i either dropped them or misplaced them. took my hatch lock cylinder because of course i needed a key fo rthe car and couldnt find my original ones. $30 labor and a pair of keys that work.
