plate between lights...

Has anyone ever thought of smoothing out the plate between the rear lights or even done it? What about remvoing it and smoothing the metal behind it?
Any thoughts on that...?

I have thought about it. I think it would look good. I'd take either fiberglass or bondo and fill the groves in and paint it.
I had forgotten about it untill you just reminded me. Maybe I'll do it this week and post results.

My little brother had already started this project during the summer with some bondo style stuff... We just never got around to sanding it down..

i have a smooth finishing piece between the tail lights on my 79, and it looks awsome. i would imagine that the same would be true with the other first gens.

The gap between the lights on the early FB is a very distinct style point and I see no need to change it.

I've personaly always liked the Aussie rear setup better... looks cleaner... less cheap.

I'm with Suparslinc on the SA's (I'm assuming you meant SA, not FB?)... the dished metal back with the protruding license lights is sweet (in a classic kind of way).

SCC took the plastic off their project FB, and smoothed out the two bumps where it bolts on. It looked really nice. Too bad I have no scanner

mmm

just thinking...........
u said that theres 2 bumps with holes in them where that back piece on the U.S models bolt in......
on aussie models, we have the same bumps (in the centre, with holes) in which the bracket for the numberplate is bolted to, so this modification might not be as hard as you all think.

(if you can get a hold of one. maybe from a jap import place coz the jap versions are the same as the aussie versions i think)
good luck.

You guys have different shaped plates than we do though. Ours are more square, and I think it'd look dumb inbetween the lights. Only the rectangular foreign plates look right up there.

hhmmmm

bummer.
i didnt even think of that.......
we can even get plates that are approx half the width and length
of the ones that are on my car (red first gen)
(look under attachments in one of my previous replys)
oh well.....
i think that the rear of the U.S models looks pretty good.
