Ok, ok, you talked me into it. I guess I would take a twin "rotor" engine in an FD, preferably in one like this...

Twin rotor:

Why replace a rotary engine with v8 if you can get over 500hp with 1.3 liter engine. Yes it is expensive to do but it also expensive to do the same with a v8.

the piston engine has had more time to be perfected. Eventually rotary engines will become better look at the renesis (sp). I would like to have a pontiac 303 powered rx. 555hp at the flywheel. only one running engine is known.

I can build a 400hp v8 for a lot cheaper than a stock 12A, but the swap kit will cost a bit, so I don't compare $$. I can build a 400hp v8 that is enjoyable driving everyday on the street, no matter what the conditions, or your mood. If I were to build a rotory, it would have to be at least a 13, and then to get that kind of hp makes it not so freindly on the street.
Going up in HP on either engine limits it streetability.
I think that a 350 will be perfect for my car. I also think that the 12A would be perfect for say a mid 70's toyota or datsun or RX3 . If the dude doesn't come through with the disc brake rear end, I may build a 77 carola with the 12A. One project at a time though.
If I do build the carolla, I know that I can find answers to all my questions about the rotory here.

BTW, if people are so against putting v8's in their RX7's, why do they put Holley carbs on them? Isn't that the same principle?? "It's not the same thing" they would say. Sure it is. The Nikki has all sorts of neat little gadgets designed especially for the Rotory engine. The Holley was designed for.... well V8's. If you are gonna be against swapping one thing into a car because it is not original, then you have to be against swapping anything not original into a car. And that is just not what we are about- Concours restorations being the exception.

I say that if someone wants to build a fire breathing rotory engine, Cool. If they want to slip in a fire breathing v8, Just as cool. Personally, I just plain enjoy seeing All of the different ideas and modifications that people have done to their cars. To me, that is what an enthusiast is: Someone who is 'enthusiastic' about cars, no matter what shape, form or function.

Later,
Bill.
