Pinging Why and How to fix

My buddy I sold my last car to has a problem.

Car is an 83, and has an 83 engine in it. Nothing has been Changed except for the fuel filter.

1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd. 3K and up The engine sounds like rocks are tumbling in it.

I think it is pinging.

Now I pulled the plugs and they are Crusty and Brown. They are Denso and were installed about 2 months ago. Has a new Fuel Filter.

I told him to check the Carb inlet screens and clean them. And then recheck. Seems to me that he is not getting enough fuel when he gets into the 4 barrel.

Thoughts????

The timing has not been Touched.

So it must be Mixture too lean. Trash in the screens? Float sticking? Jets Dirty?

Check it anyways, Since you don't own the car anymore who's say someone else didn't mess with it.
