Ok what about the seal where does that go. I just put it on the shaft in the tranny or was I supposed to put that in where the bearing was also?

It's meant to go in after the bearing.

Yes. The seal keeps the grease in the bearing.

Not sure how long the PIIDButt Gel will last but I did not know about the Pilot Bearing Seal the first Clutch Job I did back in 82 (1st RX-7 I owned) Seal was sold seperatly.
Lasted about 1200 miles before the noise started. Took out the Trannie and sure enough the Bearing had Seized itself to the Shaft.
Very expensive educational experience.
Do not drive it without that Seal, or the same may happen to you.
It just sucks when we try so hard to do things right and have to tear it back down again. Sorry to hear you have to start over again!
Eat some Turkey-Drink Some Beer and have fun Thanksgiving Day under the RX Again.

Dry pilot bearing MIGHT last pretty good. I think they dry out naturally long before they wear out.

I was trying to remember the Special Lube we used to use for extra-tight interference fits when I worked on engines. Sometimes there are parts, like wrist pins going into pistons, that seem so tight that they'll never go together. Then you dunk them in this special lube "X" and they slide right together. Can't remember what "X" is, though. Could it have been "Shaler Rislone"? Anybody know? Heck, it might even be MMO.

Pilot Bearing?

Can somebody tell me if all pilot bearing size are the same even if you have a twin plate clutch? How many should I need and where can I buy it and how much is it? I hear a grinding sound on my clutch everytime I step on the clutch and my friends told me that it's probably the bearing. Please help a rotary brother?!!! Thanks!

Well first welcome to the forum.

You hear a grinding noise??? How new is this clutch?

I also think that it is not the pilot bearing that is causing you trouble. I think you might be looking towards the THROWOUT bearing. This is the bearing the pushs against the Pressure Plate the engage the clutch.

Im at a loss for what else it could be. Anyone else got any Ideas?

Thanks!

I appreciate the response you guys gave me and I'm glad that you didn't tell me to just search the archives. Thanks also for welcoming me. If it is the through bearing, I know that I have to drop the tranny so I might as well replace the pilot bearing and the seals as well. Can you tell me where I can buy this parts? I have a 1995 FD Japanese Spec and I'm located here in Germany. I'm also looking to buy a new intake system. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
