Talking Pics of the Silver Bullet!!

Alright, with all this talk of photo sections and what not, I thought I'd throw up a few pictures of my seven.

Not as wild as some of yours, but I love her nonetheless.

I'll get some pictures of my racing seat and stereo system up when the next roll is developed...

The pictures are a bit dark, but notice how the paint above my exhaust tips is scorched from shooting flames!! (which I discovered I actually do after a little 'experiment' last month)

And I know my engine bay is filthy, but don't worry I have since cleaned it and it's spotless

Enjoy!!

It's me again, car looks great once again!! I forgot to ask about the electric fan, did removing the old one make a noticable difference? I know the stock fan is heavy.

Thanks man!!! I still think your 7 is the bomb *** ****, someday I want a bodykit like that

The electric fan makes a big difference in 1st and 2nd gears, the car revs up noticeably quicker. If your fan clutch isn't bad, it's not a big enough difference to motivate spending 500 bones on it though.

Oh, and it's not a straight bolt in thing, at least for the 82... It was quite a job getting it to fit! Lots of bad words used

Winnipeg,

I use the Meguiars' "Extra" cleaner/degreaser, it comes in a purple bottle. Pick up a bottle of that, and about 20 rolls of paper towels, and you're ready to start!!

My biggest problem is when I get the car rust sprayed, they tend to spray the engine even after being told not to. So I end up with a thick coat of oil over everything.

I think you should ask Jose or some of the guys here with really immaculate engines - how do they do it????

I used lots of degreaser and simple green for mine, i got a detailing set of burshes 2 Nylon Bristle, 2 Brass Bristle, and 2 Steel Bristle ones, and I started scrubbing and rinsing, scrubbing and rinsing, i havent gotten to polish anything yet but right now its pretty grease free... i also made sure to armor all all the wires and plastics after using the degreaser so nothing dries out.

This alone makes a huge difference, also taking different parts out and re-painting them helps them look new again and also protect them. Make sure to use High Temp engine paint...

SilverRocket how old are your radiator hoses? In that picture they look a bit old... might be time to invest in some new ones and also get some new SS Hoseclamps the stock ones STINK

Yeah they look little iffy in that pic, I think they're alright though...
They all came off and back on for the e-fan install, and they didn't seem brittle or dried out. I think they're just dirty from sitting on my garage floor in that pic (pic was right after the fan install).

I wouldn't mind a nice set of silicone hoses though...

My god, armor-all-ing your engine bay?? That's seriously impressive, I thought I was **** about my car Mine will be due for that treatment one of these days....

Great idea with the detailing brushes too, I'm gonna get a set

i got my hoses replaced this winter, i was losing coolant and they were a bit mushy. i had to go to the dealer cause everyone else was too busy the service rep said they had never had to replace the hoses on an RX-7 !! (and this is the dealer that races a first gen,or at least sponsers one) needless to say they charged me an hours labour to change the thermostat HELLO!! you charged me to remove the hoses, how long could it take to change the stat ??? did you change the hoses, then remove them again to change the stat ? retards.

anyways, i get my car rust sprayed too and it's a pain to clean the engine bay afterwards. i found that the 'orange' hand cleaner works great for getting the oil off plug wires etc. 'simple green' is good for the real nasty stuff, and 'meguiars' makes a decent rubber dressing that works great on hoses n' stuff wrapped in electrical tape!

HAHAHA I think I've heard about that dealer, don't they sponsor a first and a second gen? If they're like all the other dealers they know less than nothing about rotaries. I think it's ridiculous that Mazda is afraid to do any work on their own cars Our cars are great, the problem is that they have this reputation for being hard to work on - arising no doubt from the third gen and its sequential turbo vacuum tube mess. Now it has attached itself to all rotaries.

Your hoses look really good, as I saw this weekend. You have the Racing Beat wires too right?

Good tip about the orange hand cleaner

I think the Meguairs stuff I got is similar to simple green, it is fairly strong stuff.
