You should look at your local autoparts store for, or ask about, little plastic things that run through the radiator and then have a barbed shaft on the other end that you slide a keeper on. They would fit where your bolts are now and put the fan right against the rad. What you have might work OK but the the less space between the fan and rad the better. You could extend the shroud of the fan to the rad but look for these "thingys" first. It's how many after market fans are attached.

You'll have much better cooling if you build a shroud for the fan... it'll be sucking most of the air from the space between the radiator and the fan, and not through the radiator as it should.

When there is no shroud, you cant install it that way. Your other options are as follows:

1. Make a bracket like the one in this picture which connects to the fan's plastic ears.

2. Buy the plastic mount kit but it has to go thru the fins. Be very careful as you can ruin the radiator core and the fins.

I know what ur trying to do but its not effecient. My son's FB has the same set up except the fiero fan has a shroud

this looks very simmilar to the mount I made for my se I am not a fan of the little plastic barbed attachments they have failed on 2 of my cars (they allowed the fan to sag ripping the fins in the radiators and allowing the fan to cut into the radiator) the last time leading me to build my own mount. because of the 13b's extra length I had to mount the fan closer to the rad to clear the eshaft pully. I used angle alum. one side horizontal the other vertical pointing down then I notched the ends allowing the vertical part to sit 3mm or so from the fan. I then bolted 2 "L" brackets one on each end even with the notches after that i found bolts that fit snug in the " t" slot on the fan and hung it from the horizontal part of the angle aluminum flush with the vertical part. alum. mounts to the passenger side of the rad to locate the lower half of the fan. I still need to figure out some kind of fan shroud. i

i had those on mine at first, and they died within 6 months. just some zip ties work much better and hold tighter

I ran my efan with "temporary" zip ties through the radiator fins for mounting. That "temporarily" lasted for about one and a half years without problems. Then I did some spring cleaning on the engine bay and made some nice brackets.

i snipped the excess off the zip ties and i am fine with how it looks. so it's permanent for me as long as it holds

ya those ties are mainly used for strapping an external tranny cooler on the front of the rad. they work well as it doesn't have a motor on it jiggling it all to hell.

Nice, but without it right next to the radiator, your not going to pull much air through the rad. Those plastic mounting straps cost less then $5 use them. You will see how good your set up is this summer.
