Might as well go for broke and get a Falconer V-16! Accepts all the mouse stuff (minus the cams, of course..) and it's all aluminum. I'll bet it weighs the same as a 12A, too. N/A---->700HP easy and it will spin to 9000 RPM all day...just like the rotary, it's ruled out of every racing class it tries to get used in...

If you want 700hp and 9000rpm you build up a 327, no need for anything fancy

Yeah but what can I get outta 12A reasonably? 200hp? Im not talking doing BP's or PP's Cause 1 most time the porting is higher than hell, and the longevity of the motor is shortened. Theres just tons of factors to why I didnt. I can get 350-400hp, easily and with about 15psi of boost. To do the same thing on a 12A would have COSTED A FORTUNE. My turbo costs $850 ! Thats with ported manifold, ported wastegate.... You add those up and you will see why I did what I did

In all seriousness I should have FREAKING done a V8, id been done by now But its not rotary and its not for me

I know, it's a SBC and therefore it's no good for anything other than a boat anchor, or maybe a doorstop, or a mailbox for an 8-unit apartment block... But Pro Stock was getting over 700hp from 327s in the early 70's, imagine what could be done today! My point is, you don't need to double the displacement to make only 700hp.

A friend of mine just got done putting together a DZ302 replica... he had a '63ish 283 in his truck, so they pulled it out, bored it out to 4", and put it together like the '67-69 Z/28 had... I'm not a Chevy fan in the slightest (only little boys have bow ties!) but still, that engine makes me drool.

In my defense, I did say easy. Just like a SBC can make 400 HP easy. Lord only knows how far the Falconer could go...

Wow! How did I miss this one?

I am sure as hell greatfull that we have piston engines. If we didn't, I would have no way to get my rotary powered race car to the track. That would suck to have this really cool rotary powered race car and not have a vehicle that makes enough power and torque to tow it.

Just FYI. All of the fastest, most powerfull, best handling, and most reliable cars have piston engines in them.

Some of you people need to get over yourself and realise the rotary is not the best engine out there.

I love the rotary because it's unique and different, but I have not fooled myself into thinking its the best thing out there.

You guys sound like a bunch of Honda owners trying to explain why civics are so much better than Camero's.

Hey winnipeg,

Way to go man. I hope it turns out well for you.
I've been thinking about doing this with a second gen. Mainly because of the IRS and you can put bigger meat under the fenders to handle all that power and torque.

Later,
MIke

You're still missing it. Everyone is upset because he's putting a V-8 into an RX-7. Put it into something else like a Fiat X-1/9 or MGB GT-6 and then POST THAT CRAP IN THE FORD FORUMS WHERE IT WILL BE APPRECIATED!! It's not, here. That is the point...

Humm how long has the piston concept been around? almost a 100 years? How long has the rotary concept been around 40 years? I think to have a motor do almost 200k miles and have similar gas mileage as the v8's is quite a feat for a small company of the time. Only thing good about a v8 swap is the cost, and thats IT~

I'd love to have a high powered rotary, but the problem is EMISSIONS... high power + emissions legal is cheaper with boinger than rotary, unfortunately. It's why I haven't really don't anything with the '87.

Don't worry guys. The 1st-gen(s) will always be rotary powered for me. But the '87 is just an FC and I don't even think of it as an RX-7... it's just "that dead car in the garage". Besides, it's too big and bulky to be an RX-7.

Hopefully, the Renesis will solve all this performance vs. emissions trade-off yahooey...
