i live in east texas and i want to take it to a shop to fix it i have an available 2000 dollars right now so how much more will i need? sorry guess engine type would help its a 85 gsl se 13b

i was driving down the road doin bout 80 and then i stopped somewhere and turned the car off for a few seconds than when i got back in i started it up and i drove for bout 1 min and the gears started slipping and than it just turned off and when i popped the hood it was on fire...

i would try and replace all the parts that are burned up, and keep it. im not sure what a se is like when its all stock, but i would keep it, and do whatever it takes to make that happen.

or check out some of the threads about turbo se swaps. this would be a perfect chance to do that, and i would possibly want to buy the shortblock from you as a spare.

Most rotary FI fires are caused by a leaking pulsation dampner, which is on the opposite end of the fuel rail in pic 3 showing the fpr. So far it looks like you need a new PD, 125 or a 7 buck banjo bolt, vacuum hose, omp lines, probably new injector seals, maybe even injectors, LIM/UIM gasket, wiring and clips

I would guess no more than 700 for a shop, you might be able to do it for 300 with parts.

^^ Yeah. your FPD is supposed that a screw in the middle and a plastic cap over it. It looks like both those are gone causing the leak. Go to a junkyard and get a GSL-SE wiring harness and all the intake components. Probably be less than $200.

p.s.
Get the FPD new from Dealer.

well....just my .02 cents.. i'd rip off what's left of the FI system.. sell it in the for sale section and swap to a nice IDA or OER set-up....in actuallity a caqrb rotary needs little in terms of engine bay wiring.. so you can save alot of headaches in that department..and you'll get some much needed performance gains... The guys above are spot on as well in terms of repairing it..but if TX is anything like FL then it'll be near impossible to find a wiring harness and misc parts in a junk yard.. fact is there's just fewer and fewer of our cars around, especially 5 letters. Sooo, for what it's worth,. I'm just showing you the other side of the coin

what if i bought a engine from mazda trix and sent it to dallas gotham racing would they do a swap for me and rewire it?

theres nothing wrong with a carbed se. i have a 84 se with the racing beat holley setup.

and 85rx7jrs, there are only a couple 1st gens locally in junkyards (im from tyler). there is one at TKO over on erwin in tyler, and one at DG Auto on 14 north, and one or two 2nd gens at Tobias Auto just off of 69 near lindale. and actually there is a friend of mine in lindale that is about to do something to his se, and he wont need the wiring anymore, ill give him a call and see what he has for sale.

and its not the motor you need to buy, its the wiring and all the things that burned up. ive lost a car to a fire before, and the motor was fine, just the wiring was toast.

So what about buying a 2nd gen turbo and dropped it into my se how much would i be looking at because gotham said they would charge me 1350 for swap in labor and would rewire it for me . Also what other upgrades would be recommended for a swap like that?

from what i have read, everyone says the swap is pretty simple, and you should be able to do it yourself, as long as youre not afraid to tackle the wiring.
