Pedal Covers

Any tips on purchasing pedal covers for a manual 85 SE? Do most just bolt over the stock rubber? I also want a set that has a dead pedal too.

Thanks for any input.

ok, i didn't want to make a comment that would offend people. but i already posted and edited it. i am here to make friends who share a common interest, not **** people off. nut, if you want to know what i said, i said, that i think they are pointless and they look out of place. if you want pedal covers, pick up a victoria british magazine and order them. they are 5 bucks and come from mazda. you can also use pedal covers form an escort, a probe, and other mazda vehicles. they are the same pedal pad.

I personally like the pedal covers, they have more grip when they're wet and icy, and they look better than the stockers. Also great for heel-toe, which I do all the time when downshifting.

hence me saying what i said instead of "Attacking". i have never attacked anyone. also, i did not mean to call you "nut" i meant now not nut. i have no idea what i was typing. perhaps i should proofread more. furthermore, i like your car and i saved the vid you posted to my computer. i am just stating my opinion by saying that i do not like the pedal covers. and to answer his question, they do clip on over the stock pedals. i am sure you could better explain how they fit. i have not installed a set on my car. i have only seen them on cars. at any rate, if i offended you, i am sorry. perhaps i was out of line.

No problems mazdaverx713b, i just have a BIG problem with people making condescending posts about other people's interests. But you obviously didnt mean it that way so no harm done. glad we worked it out.

Yeah i got mine, first off for looks (i got mine liek 3 years ago), but it turns out i got REALLY good at heel-toe shifting with them. they grip so much better.

Mine use some screws that go into straps across teh back of the stock pedals. Brushed metal plates w/ plastic/rubber dots in between. I love them.

it CLAIMS to be L6 Ocean Blue metallic, however my understanding is that other L6 cars are much more blue than my teal. Its extremely rare. i've only seen one other car in person the same color. and it had seen better days. (mostly primered).

MRMARK you can also go to www.procarparts.com or www.jcwhitney.com for onlien purchasing.

Ebay is also a great source! I buy tons of car stuff off there.

Glad you guys worked it out. I shall refrain from editing.

Actually pedal covers can be a performance improvement. The stock gas pedal is ridiculously low and slim and far from the brake pedal, making heel and toe virtually impossible. I hear FD's are the same way, dunno about FC's. I shimmed and raised my throttle and added pedal covers (cheap ricer ones from autozone) to enlarge the brake and gas pedals. Much better on my racecar now. And just for stlye and looks, Id do it on my streetcar but I got too much other stuff to do to bother with it right now.

The ones I bought do bolt over the stock pedals so they are secure. I may make them bolt through for added saftey in the future, but they seem real secure and havent moved yet. I'd stay away from ones that just have bendable tabs to hold it on. Not safe IMHO.

Yes, definately avoid bendable tabs. Mine have metal brackets that wrap around the back, one on top and one on bottom. You can get them down REAL tight (its actually pressed into the plastic stock pedals now they are so tight).

The pedal covers i'm using are from partshopper.com (mustang site). They arn't those cheapy plastic covers, the are cnc'd aluminum. Defintly grippy and they screw into the stock pedals.

Hey Matt,

Will you post a picture of what they look like installed??

Are there any pedals where you just cut off the old ones and weld them on so you don't have to clamp them on or drill holes into the stock pedals?

Oh yeah, what is a 12a extend a port?

Yeah I'll get a picture posted tommorow.

Extend-a-port is just another name for a street port as far as I know.

Absolutely true. I bought some Ractive ones back when i turned 16 lol and put them on my Corolla. Good lord. TOTALLY unsafe... i always carried a screwdriver with me because they would always get unaligned, get unscrewed, or fall off. When they did fall off and were dangling there, i couldn't brake all teh way... after about 3 times of this and having a couple close calls of messing with them, and not being able to brake properly... i tossed em.
