partial emissions removal

I got this 12a car and it will start fine but will just stall out. The kid who I got this from, he was a good guy but he was a total honda freak. He didn't even know what motor it had in it so he didn't even mess with it. Well on closer inspection when I removed the air cleaner I saw that the little hose that comes directly from the bottom, I think it's the idle componsator, was broken. I plugged it up now the car idles at about 600 with no problems. I can turn the air conditioning on and it will bog down like 25rpms but thats it. Well I want to remove some of the emissions but I really don't know where to begin.

I want to keep my a/c and airpump for right now because I do not have money to buy an aftermarket header for all my money is going into my vert and I like the idea of a/c (ripped it out of my FC). What can I remove and what can't I is what I'm asking. I want to replace everything I need to keep for my a/c with new lines and just remove everything that I don't need along with replacing the behive O-rings and such. Sorry, it's kinda long and I'm kinda stupid but bare with me

The car idles fine, is really sluggish though and will not go above 4k. I think maybe my secs on my carburator might be f'd up but then again this is my first carb'd car so I'm really new to it. Any ideas on what could be the power loss culpret? I am going to go out there and check all my plugs for a good spark then I'm kinda stump'd from there.

Thanks alot, Tony

go to mazspeed and download the walkthrough for removing the rats nest.

It allows you to remove all the emissions equipment, while still retaining your stock exhaust, and A/C.

Makes a huge difference in performance, and really cleans up your engine compartment.

so removing the emmisions does make a huge increase in performance?

I heard it only gets you like 5 hp. Whats the deal?

I didnt notice a power difference when I removed emissions. However, when I converted the secs to mech (which enabled them to actually work) - this is where the big jump happened. My secs were stuck shut and the vac system would not open them. Also, with secs not working my top speed was only 75-80 range.

by "better performance" i didn't mean "power increase"

what i meant was, the car altogether runs better, idles smoother, i did notice better throttle response, and a slight increase in MPG.

yeah the car lacks some major power, I am going to check the cat to see if it's clogged tomorrow.

if you are talking about the black flap in the stock blue air duct, I completely removed this when I was running my nikki it made a difference in how my car idled for sure...

As far as emissions goes I was happy to remove mine just make sure you don't need your emissions intact in your area. The car won't be faster but if you have any vac. leaks this will help your car to run better idle better and so on...

I'm just going to take the a/c out, I ripped a perfectly good a/c out of my vert for a nice clean 13bt so why not this 12a. I will have to get ahold of a header so I can take off the airpump though. The car lacks major power right now though, it doesn't want to rev past 4k when driving. It will rev to 7k in neutral though. So I am kind of stuck, it's my first carb'd car so I'm lost. All I have is the haynes (came free w/car) and rx7club which should be plenty.

You get a good performance increase when you install a header in conjunction with the emissions removal. That's the perfect time to do it.

Don't you have to change out the header if you remove airpump or the cat will get clogged from overheating. Do you only have to make on block off plate for the acv or is there other things to block off aswell? I'm hijacking my own thread but I removed my Trailing plugs and they are totally f'd. I figure my car is not reving because there is not even spark from the trailing plugs, leading plugs look alright. I took off the T2 wire when the engine was running and it didn't change but I did get a nice strong shock from it. I'm going to get new plugs tomorrow when I get paid and hopefully it will run strong. Gets nice pulses from every seal.

racing beat has acv block off plates, but I don't know if they sell them seperatly. They come with the header, but you can check.

when i removed all the emissions, i left the stock manifold (for now) and cat.

i bougt the ACV blockoff plate from Mazdatrix (click me). it cost like $6 or so, but you can make one yourself.

thanks alot, I'm just going to remove everything but my power steering. It will make for a nice clean engine. The side of the engine is mostly covered in oil due to the behive so removing the a/c and emissions will make for easier cleaning.
