Painting trim (not the rubber/plastic ones)...
The trim around my windshield (including the big strip that runs over the doors) and on my hatch glass is becoming very unpleasing to the eye. I've heard that the trim around the windshield is chrome and I know chrome doesn't really like paint.
I am planning to re-paint the trim tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Can you guru's give me some pointers of what to's and what not to's (like type of paint, sanding, etc, etc)? I tried a search but only found stuff for painting the rubber trims...

My original trim around the windows ( 79)was painted a matt version of the same color as my body paint. I'm not sure what versions had chrome around the windows. I always liked the painted trim.

I'm doing this soon too....
Is it best to sand it down to the dull metal? i.e., is it not paintable when still pretty (as fullsmoke suggested)?
Also, how about paint remover for removing the paint, and a buff-wheel instead of sanding? (this is what I was thinking about doing)
I have some spare trim on my parts car that I'd be willing to sacrifice to trying a few things...
The paint on mine (which has half-flaked-off) looks flat black.

that trim is stainless, which is notorious for being a bitch to paint. when I had a new windshield put in I told him to leave the trim off so I could paint it. I sanded it real rough, primed it real good, then painted the black on that. Its been 8 months and its still holding up. The key is to rough it up good and apply a lot of primer.

I was planning flat black as well. I talked to a auto paint shop owner and he suggested some special paint for chrome--which i purchaced. I wasn't going to sand the metal or prime it. I was just gonna clean up the areas real well and then cover everything else and go for it... But it seems that I'll need to sand and prime it?
