Question To paint or not to paint?

Ok guys. Since I just finished the interior cleanup of member Cowboyfuns car. I need my fellow members opinions on whether to paint the outside door handles black or leave them the same color as the car. I redid the mirrors and repainted the outside locks black to give her some contrast.

Here are some shots and different angles of the doors.

You could go either way, really. I say paint them black, it'll help break up that yellow. You can't have a small sprinkling of black with the just mirrors and rest of the car yellow. It'll look a bit odd.

Yeah, with the door locks being black, you pretty much have to match the door handles. Otherwise, it looks really bad.

I'm fine with them yellow, but then my DD is a 2nd gen with painted handles, well, one of them at least.

Everybody is right. IMO, if the mirrors and locks are black, then the scheme is no longer nonochromatic, so the handles should be painted as well. But, if monochrmatic (one color) was the desired effect, then of course everything should be the one color and there should be no contrast. I only have the black of mywhip antenna, the airdam grill, and the wipers, so technically I'm not monochromatic either. Oh, well...

The handles being the same color... looks very Corvette-ish. Paint them black.

I prefer the black handles, myself. My blue FC has one blue and one red. Both will soon be black.......

As a yellow RX7 owner, my vote would be to paint them black.
Love the yellow paint job though. Looks nice.

Generally you guys voted for black. So black they are.
Last question looking at the new pictures. Targa or no Targa?

No targa. Keep the body lines smooth. I saw a targa a few days ago in the shop, needless to say, it's okay, but for a smooth look, no targa. Looks sexier. Targa sticks out like a sore thumb.

I think I have to agree with 85FB.
Looks cleaner without the Targa Band.

give us an isometric view with the whole front with and without the targa band, preferrably with the camera on a tripod so the camera is in the same place for both pictures. It's hard to tell what would look better without seeing the entire car, but from that picture the targa definately looks better. It gives the car a little extra something, and it doesn't scream "look at me, i'm a custom car" as much. it's a rare-ish stock piece, and it takes a little bit of the edge off of the screaming, "look at me" yellow that the car is painted.

Black handles look great! Targa band looks better, it breaks the yellow up a little bit. It adds some more contrast with black and it also ties in with the wheels. Only thing I do not like is the GSL emblem on the targa.

Thanks for the input guys. Keep it coming.
2Wankel. The car that the Targa came off of was a GSl. The guy had the option put on when he bought it at the dealership along with 2 other factory only options. 1 being the rear cargo bar which I have and the other being the leather padded armrest for the center console which another member has. The padded armrest and the cargo bar are actually rarer than the targa as This is the only time I have come across them in all 20 years I have been around the 7's.

But I hear what you are saying about the emblem, it kind of throws off the Targa a bit.

I know the Targa is a rare-ish item. I just don't think it sets off the yellow quite right. Would look killer on a black car, though.
Dark shades, Targa. Nice finishing touch.
Bright colors, no Targa. Looks out of place.

Good job on painting the door handles black! I think it looks better now with them black.

I also say go without the targa top.

That's what I was figuring. The Targa does look much better on my Black SE.
