Does the cap snap on securely? If it does, you may have other problems. You do not want to block the overflow hose off of the radiator, it's there for a purpose, to relieve pressure in the cooling system. If you stop that, where is the pressure going to go, it's going to the point of least resistance, the rad cap, rad and heater hoses and the coolant o-rings. Which one do you want to blow first.

When a engine is shut down, it goes into heat sink. Parts of the engine are hotter than others and the temps will stabalize throughout the block and cooling system. This often increses the internal pressure past the design limits of the system. This is why there is a radiator cap with a specified psi release rating and an overflow tank.

If your cap won't stay on because it has worn, find another one at the recycler. Do not block the radiator's ability to relieve pressure, unless you are looking forward to a possible rebuild.

its not the radiator cap that wont stay on its the overflow tank cap, it snaps on but not securely. im thinking also about useing some double bubble on the cap. bc underpressure it blows off and leaks coolant.

I don't think the issue is your resevoir tank cap. You have to ask why you have coolant shooting out in the first place. Two possibilities come to mind. 1. Your radiator cap is not working correctly, and allowing coolant to pass out of the radiator at lower than spec pressures. 2. You are pumping combustion gasses into the cooling system and over-pressurizing the system.

Remove the radiator cap, start the car up cold and look for bubbles in the radiator. If you have bubbles, you have combustion gases, and a blown coolant seal.

There is a little vent hole in the top of the cap, is it plugged? When you do the bubble test, you may need to run it until it reaches operating temps, not always though. I've seen dead cold ones bubble as soon as they were started.

i ll chk that out too as far as the went hole. if it is bubbling at a cold start does it mean that the sael is pretty damn bad off? i've look at it b4 and i dont recall bubbles i do recall that while its running and warming up the allot of coolant that comes out after a few minutes but i was figuring that was the water pump working and stuff is this right?

Coolant should not be coming out unless the engine was warm and just shut down and went into heat sink, stabilizing the internal temps and the pressure exceeds the psi rating on the rad cap.

If coolant is coming out before the engine has reached operating temp, either the rad cap is bad or the wrong one, or the coolant seals are gone. It's possible that the rad is plugged, but it won't pressureize fully until the thermostat opens.

i was meaning that coolant comes out while the cap is off. i just did the block weld trick and its not smokking at all anymore so i dont think the seals are really that bad. the radiator is brand new only 4 months old. i ll chk it all out todaya and see what happens.
