anybody have any thoughts what to do??i have a new raditor and hoses and it still over heats FAST i only went a block and the tach was at 3/4 to red....the only other thing i can think that might need to be replaced is the thermostat(which is the cheapest thing to try then the water pump............help out pleez i cant drive it like this

change the water pump, thermo, gasket, and drain-flush-refill your coolant.

PS overheat a rotary and it's DOA.

DOA = Dead On Arrival.

You may want to dig up your other post and try again there, since you did specify what happened when it overheated. It would take some time to post that again here. From what I recall, you put in a new radiator, but whenever you do that, you should also replace the thermostat (cheap), and new hoses, since you'll have 1/2 of them off anyway to do the radiator install.

Once you have a new thermostat in there (you do HAVE one in there, right???), then post back and let's talk about what you can do about it,

i never touched the termo im gunna try to pick one up tomorow but cant promise on install too it looks confusing in the hayes manual but i can manage....can u go back over draining the block though longduck??

dude listen it's EASY ok.

Put a catch underneath for the antifreeze, don't want animals drinking it, they will die.
Remove Radiator Cap.
Pull the upper hose, let it drain, unbolt the thermostat housing, remove. Now listen carefully, the thermostat housing must be cleaned. I don't know how much you know about cars but that gasket won't seal if both sides are cleaned properly.
Now remove thermostat. If your antifreeze looks like puke, or **** redin diahrea you might want to think about changing that as well, just move the catch pan to the driver side of the engine where if you look below the spark plugs there will be a bolt, drain the antifreeze from there.
Once that is taken care of put bolt back on, I say this because there are morons out there. Now remove your splash guard from underneath yur vehicle. It's like 6 bolts and it drops down. There will be a bolt on the underside of your radiator remove that an let the antifreeze drain into the pan. (It will come flying out and go everywhere so be ready.) Once that is finished put the bolt back onto the radiator.
Install splash guard reverse of removal.
Now make sure both sides of where the gasket is going to be placed are clean. NOw I'm not talking about the gasket, I'm talking about the metal. REPEAT: It will not seal if this is not clean. Now put the new thermastat in it's proper place. Get a high temp silicone and dab a bit on the sure of the metal so the gasket will seal just alitle better.
INstall water outlet housing, bolt down. Also install upper radiator hose.
NOTE: Replacement of the hoses is recommended, but not necessary if they are not dry rotten.
Add Coolant into the radiator till it reaches the surface of the radiator. Start up vehicle and wait for the antifreeze to circulate. Add coolant again till it reaches surface. You will notice steam that is normal.
Put Cap on radiator, drop down the hood and go drive see if it drives ok.

ok i will do that sometime this week i picked a thermostat up today i got one that opens at 180 because i thought i might as get one that keeps it cooler then one that opens around 200 but when i got home i looked it up and i bought the right one.......

Make sure the T-stat has the little plate on the end of it. Some places will sell you the wrong one.

run it w/o the thermostat. i did, and i had no problems whatsoever... hard driving, mild, whatever.

if its a 83-85 with a beehive, the valve in teh heatercore might be stuck, mine did this and would read 3/4 hot in about 3 min from cold

yea i mean i didnt go but a block and the temp went up to 3/4 so i turned around to go back

check the heatercore then
easy way to check is to unhook the hoses from the firewall and couple them together and see how it does

bypass the heatercore
the 2 hoses that run into the firewall, unhook them from the firewall, and hook them together

this will tell you if the valve in the heatercore is bad
