I have to ask it, the basics.

Do you have the factory fan hooked up to the front of the engine? Does it work? Does it overheat if it idles for a long time or if your driving it down a highway?

the thermostat helps slow the water as in travels through the rad. thus increasing cooling.
you can test the thermostat by boiling it in a pot of water to see if it opens before the water boils.

um have factor fan and i think its not hooked up to the engine not 100%, um and for over heating i start it let it warm up(not enught to idle dont know if thats another prob or what) if i drive to my freinds from my house it over heats bad and its only like a mile away it idles good once warm befor it will not idle but once it gets warm like right after that it starts to over heat. dont think the idleing has anything to do with it but not a car expert so wanted to say that just in case.

If your driving down the highway and its over heating a majority of the time I would look into a new radiator. That is, if the coolant is flowing , the fan is blowing , and the water pump is all working correctly.

there should be an obvious fan in front of the engine, and it will be attached to one of the pullies on the front of the motor. If you don't have one of those you should get one or a e-fan. Try starting it and then driving on a highway, or a road that has a speed limit higher than 40mph, and let us know if it still overheats.

I'm thinking your fan doesn't work or you don't have one, and thats why when you do stop and go city driving, to your friends and back, the car overheats. Without airflow through the rad the car will overheat, which means going over 35mph for the ram air cooling or having a fan. I know it seems weird that a car would overheat at idle without a fan, but mine would when I took mine off and I'd get stuck in traffic.
