Thanks a lot for the response jutny. I really appreciate it.

There was a thread with a pic of dual 8's mounted on either side of the hatch latch in the rear using custom boxes... It's stealth and leaves the original location open for real speakers which is why I was saying 8". I found an old thread with some similar pics but not the awesome install I had seen - I think it was BadAssRX-7's but I'm not sure.

I bit the bullet and laid out the cash for brand new door seals, and I also have rear seats and I'll be putting double insulation in the hatch floor because I never liked how far the tire sticks up. The seats also don't help for putting anything in/under the compartments which limits my options. But on the plus side with those 3 things combined my car's very quiet - I bet it's on par with my Bro's '99 Grand Am for road and wind noise.

Thanks again for the response and I look forward to your thoughts on that imaging.

Edit: Dam Max, I thought it was Nitrous - stereo control's not nearly as cool. LOL Great setup nonetheless.

Max, I noticed that you mounted you A/F gauge in the stock clock location, just like me.

I did notice that you mounted it BEHIND the faceplate.

Was that easy or difficult to do? What did you do to make it work?

I am thinking of moving mine behind the faceplate as well when I paint my
console silver, so as to clearly see the A/C lighting at night.

I also like the color you painted it. What color is that?

I have to get some pics of my alpine head unit. Matches the look of the interior soooo well. It even has an in dash 3 cd changer. This thing rocks. Other than that, I like my 12" pioneer sub. Sure, the box is HUGE, but it hits the lowest notes of any song with amazing clearity (sp?). Its a ported 2.7 cu ft box using dual 45" long, 4" diameter ports. Those who think a ported box doesn't hit hard, I dare you to sit in my car. This sub and box combo is just awsome. I will eventually have dual amps hooked up to it. One for sound quality and one for heavy bass. But I am really quite impressed with it.

I have never really like anything smaller than a 10" speaker as a sub. Yes, an 8" speaker can do a good job on a bass drum and higher frequencies, but they just can't reproduce the super low frequencies that I like to be able to hear. Even a 10" is barely sufficient. I would go with a 15" in my 7 for sound quality, but there just isn't enough room. So whats left is the 12". My pioneer is capable of frequencies all the way down to 20 hz. It's also strong at that frequency. Most speakers just drop off real fast after 30 hz, but not my pioneer. Its strong all the way down to 23 hz, then it starts to drop off.

As for midrange and highs, I have 2 way pioneer 5.25" speakers up front, and will eventually have just some generic 6"x9" speakers in the rear to help fill in the 60 hz to 100 hz range. The sub is crossed over at 60 hz, and I will cross over the front speakers at 100 hz. I may be 18 years old, but I'm no dumbass when it comes to car stereo. Most of the people I talk to like SPL competitions, so they are dissapointed in my system when they hear it for SPL, but for SQ, its just awsome. All I gotta do now is get my sound staging right.

What do you mean there is not enough room? I have a 15" and 2 12's in mine with a **** lode of room left over. Check out my page for the details, but you have plenty of room for a 15".

You have to either remove or "tweak" the metal behind it to allow room for the gauge.
nothing a big screwdriver can't fix. I got it just right, slipped the gauge in and there it is.

I used Dupli-Color T177 Gunmetal - Actualy the same color used on the cage.
I guess the primer made it such a drastic difference in end result colors.

Eh Jutny, have you had a chance to seriously assess the imaging properties of your system? What do you have for kick panels - are they enclosures and do they angle the mid's and tweeters toward the listenner at all?

Also if 85RotraryPower has any insight on the sound stage challenge I'd to hear your thoughts. Thanks guys!

someday I plan to cover them and actualy finish blending them in, but they work well
you lose the dead pedal (never use em anyways) but it still clears boots with the clutch.
the sound improvment is much better, only thing I will have to move my tweeters now that
the rollcage blocks them, another one of those, someday projects......
Aty Mazda Rev It Up, they teach drivers to brace themselves more securely in their seats by putting the clutch foot on the dead pedal (Although these cars were pussymatic.) Since you obviously can't brace yourself against the dead pedal, this opes the question do you even brace yourself at all? If so, against what?

Or is that what a multipoint harness is for?

Also, you ever gonna send those sub enclosures off to a fiberglasser to make some molds? I think there's enough demand.

I can't say on using the dead pedal for bracingm thought it was for resting the foot

When I put the 7 away for winter I'll pop the enclosures out if there is demand and see what we
can do to make some copies, I'd like a another set myself

Ya if they're pretty reasonable you can probably count me in for a set.

You can spread your legs and brace yourself between the console and door with your knees if you're tall enough.

I personally use the dead pedal all the time - for me it will be a necessity to design the kick panels enclosures to retain the dead pedal.
