Here take a look at this... The close up ones are blurry for some reason, but I can't take new ones right now so thoes will have to do. I installed the system so I can go back to stock in 10 min, just remove the CD player and put the tape deck back in. Every thing is Quick disconnect. The Amp unplugs and the subs come right out. Makes it easy when you want to show the car... |
Here's mine...click on the pic to go to the website to see everything else :)

LOL, not hardcore, just havent had time to put in a sound system. :( I like music, but the rotary singing to me makes it bearable till I can get a stereo installed. :)

Pioneer DEH7500MP Infinity Kappa 4" 2ways (stock locations) Infinity Kappa 6x9 3ways (Under rear deck in boxes) (2) Infinity Kappa Perfect 10's (in temporary box til i get off my ass and make a custom fit one) 75w RMS x4 Amp for the Seperates 250w RMS x2 Amp for the Subs hours and hours of tuning the crossovers so it sounds perfect. And for those of you that wonder, my bass EQ is at 1, and i never use loudness... the subs are there to play the frequencies that the other speakers cant, not to show off to the world that i have subwoofers. It's mostly tuned for Classic Rock/Reggae/ Sublime-RHCP type stuff, but still sounds wicked for System of A Down, Rage Against the Machine, and Hip-Hop/Rap... allthough some music requires tweaking of the sub pre-out level to make it sound right. I really hate loud booming subs  |

Can you not just put the Tunner back in to fill the hole? That is how mine is done, works great. |
Someday I'll do it another way, until then it works....

Awesome idea to put guages there Max - looks great! Except I prefer the stock shift knob but who's nit-picking... :) What's the trigger in front of the console for? (If it's what I think it is that's is fricken awesome!)
Jutny - is that compartment stock (I'm not very familiar with the pre-84 dash)? The border matches the grey perfectly... About the "sound" I completely agree - flat frequency response is the ideal being targetted. I bet I spent about as much time setting up my HT SW. :) Too bad you're not in the Calgary area - I'm considering doing to a pure SQ install with mainly fronts to try seting up a front sound-stage but I'm not sure that it can be done in a car - I'd love to hear one done up like that to see how close you can get. :) |

That is how mine is done, works great. But the longer tem plans involve replacing the cassette deck witha CD/DVD player and using the stock tuner and EQ... |

Think it'll work? My main concern is the image... Does a singer really sound like she's standing in the middle of the car, or does it sound like 2 people singing from each side? I've been told to consider a passive center channel which I could fit below the deck right in the console??? |
Here you go!
Max inspired my gauges!!!! http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...9_172_full.jpg I also tuned my system real nice, but check out the sub. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...9_157_full.jpg More on my web page! |
Ok who makes the best install kit for 85 the kit I got looks trashyand did not fit right.

personally, i'd stay away from ported, especially since you're working with such small drivers at that point. Cant really go wrong with the infinity kappa components, i've yet to find any speakers that are as well matched to each other component to component, their responses just seem like they were made to go with eachother (probably because they were...lol :p:)
i'll have a good listen tomorrow to see what i can see about my soundstage, i've never had any complaints about it, but then again i wasnt specifically trying to set a perfect soundstage, allthough it is a nice thing to have. I'll get back to you on that center vs. both sides kind of deal. my bet is that at lower volumes, you kind of get it from both sides, but at higher volumes, since technically the tweeters on the 4" in the kick panels are pointed at eachother and then deflect off the center console, i'd imagine it starts to center out. I've never paid close enough attention to that, but i will :bigthumb:. as for an amp, anything more than 100wRMS X 4 is overkill, with my 75wRMS x 4 amp (a OLD Jensen, back when the didnt suck AS much, i love this one because of the very comprehensive crossover settings, i can set HPF and LPF for either set of channels... you'd be surprised how many 4 channel amps dont let you do that) i cant even turn them up all the way cause it makes my ears hurt, with no sign of distortion or muddying of the sound, crystal clear all the way up (and my gains arent even maxed out... well they are on the 6x9's not on the 4"ers). even for a sub box, i'd shy away from ported, i dont think anything sounds as tight and clean as an acoustic suspension (sealed) box that is the proper size for the subs, which mine happened to be (certianly hadnt researched it before i bought it at Best Buy at a nice employee discount). I'd go with 10's rather than 8's because even though 8's will give you the frequencies that you want down low, the 10's will allow them to have some kick, so you can feel it in your chest and things of that nature if you want them too, i doubt you'd get that with (2) 8"s... i had thought about doing something custom in the rear deck with (4) 8" Rockford HE subs, but to amp that properly would cost to damn much. As said, my Rockford 1500w amp (250RMSx2 @ 4 ohms) is more than enough for my 2 Perfect 10's in my world, i really cant listen to them at full volume either, its just painful. good luck with your system man, the only problem with mine is that at 80mph on the freeway, its hard to hear without cranking it up pretty high... i need to insulate my car better, cause there's no insulation now. -Kurt edit: as for a Headunit, i cant reccomend the Pioneer 7500MP enough, aside from bieng an MP3 deck, which means i only need to have 3 cd's in the car with me... it has wonderful adjustibility. And pre-outs for all channels and the sub. Plus it's easy to use, good looking, and not TOO Expensive anymore. EQ: Low/Mid/High from -6 to +6 Sub: Inverse or Normal, On or Off Sub Crossover: 50,80,125hz from -6 to +6 HPF: 50, 80, 125hz (HPF is only for R/L F/B) Loudness: On/Off.. low, mid, high it's nice to be able to turn your subs on and off from the deck, so you can tune only your seperates, and the inverse is great because if you wired something backwards and your Bass is canceling, you can flip the polarity of the subs. my settings now for just the hu are: EQ: Low 1, Mid 6, High, 5 Sub: On, Normal, 80hz, +3 HPF: 80hz Loudness: Off (fuck loudness.. makes music sound like shit) and then on the 4ch amp, i cut off the 4"ers at around 220hz and the 6x9's have a LPF on them around 240hz IIRC. |
It controls the head unit, one of the big reasons I love my Sony :)

on a more serious note: Max, where'd you get those Kick panels, they look like 5.5" no? |
they are 6.5" Qform kickpanels, from a early 90's golf. And they fit quite well after I chopped the end off.
someday I plan to cover them and actualy finish blending them in, but they work well you lose the dead pedal (never use em anyways) but it still clears boots with the clutch. the sound improvment is much better, only thing I will have to move my tweeters now that the rollcage blocks them, another one of those, someday projects...... |
