Opinions wanted

Hello all, I am asking for people's opinions on whether I should buy an rx7 or not. I am looking for a project to work on and fix up and my gf's brother is selling a 1982 RX7 that is somewhat decent for 450 dollars. Some of the problems are as follows: slave and master cylinder need thorough cleaning, spark plugs need replacing, he said the fuel pump was pushing out too much lbs or something to that extent, minor rust spots on body and 1 hole below glass in back, needs interior work and the mileage is about 15400, but other than those, we cranked it up after putting some gas in the carburator and it ran fine. Please advise as to whether this would be a decent car to fix up please. Also if you think this would be just a money pit please tell that also, I am new to the rx7's and what parts cost. I appreciate your time.

Thanks, Chris

A 7 a money pit? all of them are to a degree atleast until you get done fixing all the neglected stuff but once you get everything back into shape they actually are pretty much trouble free but do DEMAND a proper matainance scedule that MUST be followed. Think of a 7 like a gremlin: 1) ALWAYS change the oil 2) NEVER NEVER NEVER overheat it 3) ALWAYS change the coolant
But the up side is if you do these things it will reward you with good performance and excellent handling.
where in Fl you located?

Thanks for the info. I appreicate your help, i'm located in Ridge Mannor, which is about an hour south of Tampa. Buying the car in Zephyrhills. How much of a money pit would you think an 82' would be, and mileage correction, forgot a zero 153000.

At 153,000 the engine may be solid only if treated right for those miles. Brake & clutch cylinders I replace all the time for some reason. An 82 is a good investment only if you plan on pouring lots of time & love into it. Is there anyone in the area that can work on a rotary? The Mazda dealership in my town won't even change my oil. Good luck!
