opinions on 3rd gen swap?

I am about to start my project after a few months of reading, getting more educated, meeting people in my area, saving money and surfing the forum. i finally figured out i am going to do. A 3rd gen cosmo swap, partly because the tuners here in Houston only know 3rd gen and 2nd gen engines, plus the parts here are very available for cheap, there are oodles of guides and other parts, and mostly because i just want a total sleeper . anyway, i just want a general idea of how long everyone has been working on their project(regardless of project type), what kind of hurdles everyone has had to cross, and what just peoples opinions on a 3rd gen swap are?

please give me some pointers on anything.

I'd' say why bother? Get a turbo II eng/trans/harness/ecu setup. They are alot cheaper. (like 1200 shipped) Then send it in for a proper rebuild with the latest and greatest ceramic seals and street port it. You'll make more power and it will last longer....

i am doing a 2 gen swap into my 80 a few thing I have run into so far is trying to get all the parts becouse everytime you think that you got it all theres something else missing. Also I would suggest doing a T2 swap instead of FD becouse of the cost involved you can make similar power with a few extra mods as 3 gen but at thrid of the cost. And the most important thing is what ever you plan on spending take it and double it becouse I thaout I could get away with about 1500 becouse I got the motor for cheap but now I am pushing 2.5k and I still have stuff to buy so another 1k or so before the car is drivable and I am still using the stock ECU if you are planing to go stand alone that another 800 to 1.2k for that and also tuning a good tune with dyno time will run you 500 bucks on top of that. On top of that 3 gen engines you will have to run stand alone becouse the stock ecu will freak out with a full exhoust and intake and cut fuel witch end up in a blown motor. Hope this helps.

where do i find a deal like that!?, both of your arguments are very persuading, i always like to save money for the same thing. im sure there are plenty of TII swap threads so ill just look through those and see what i can manage. I do have the aspiration of turbocharging the engine later on. but anyway

what are some good websites that have a TII conversion also?

I'd just drop in one of these. Upgrade the fuel system with some water meth injection and run 16-18lbs....

Also screw all that front housing swapping. Just Mod up some custom motor mounts and leave the engine together! It's Easier IMO...

Ebay....
