The idea behind fender mount mirrors is that you check them while still keeping your eyes on the road, you just glance over instead of having to turn your head. Only problem is they're farther away so its a small view.

I think its looks good on the SA's, it's more of a 70's thing I guess...

Mounting the mirrors farther forward is a very good way of getting rid of that blind spot that most mirrors have now days. Especially on the drivers side.

So far I have found about 7 different styles of mirror used on SA/FB RXs world-wide...
The 78-81 JDM SAs came with the fender mirrors similar to the one posted here. They are a bit more oval shaped than those on the green SA; they came in a manual and electric version. In 82 I think japanese law allowed for door placement and the remaining 82-85 SA (as they were all designated there) came with the rectangular door mirror (similar to the european RX7 set on my car, pictured). These came in an electric version in 81, as well as a manual style. My car has the european 1980 SA version, which was only available in manual...

Damn Wankelguy!

Those are nice... You always seem to get the best toys
First the 1 piece Targa, now bad-*** mirrors...

I was thinking moving my stock mirrors to my fenders with the re-build...
I've always thought the stock power mirrors look pretty good, but now...
Well lets just say stock isn't going to cut it...

Are they power? Much much $$ did they set you back?

BTW, you know, my offer to buy the 1 piece targa still stands...

one trend I have noticed is that one allways wants what they can't have. Hense. Acura guys in the US put honda bages on them. And in Japan it's the exact oppisite, they put acura badges on their Honda's that are marketed as Acura's here. Well as for Rx'ys the fender mounter mirrors look identical to the door mounted power windows they just have a longer arm on them about 4-5 inches as opposed to 2-3 on the door mounted. Well i have been seeing a lot of japanese cars with the fender mounted mirrors on their doors. Funny how it all works, huh...

Yeah... it's true.

A lot of North Americans (myself included) are interested japanese culture (Samurai movies, Anime, Manga, electronic devices, music, etc). In Japan, the reverse is true. A lot of Japanese kids try to emulate American culture in much the same way...

In my case, I think the fender mirrors:
a) Look good
b) Are better for driving...

Those mirros look damn good in my opinion. But how well would they work as an actual mirror? I tend to use mine a lot and that would be the only reason not to change to those.

I don't think they make those Vitaloni Californian mirrors anymore. I got mine at a junkyard for about $10 a few years ago. That pic is from a Fiat restoration place that had 'em listed for like $80 apiece. *ouch*

As for the 1-piece targa band, I've heard that they are pretty near impossible to get off without messin' 'em up so I'll probably just sell it with the car when I do sell the car. Someday.

I use mine a lot too. I like the idea of being able to keep my eyes forward while looking at my mirrors...

So is that saying you have them?
I don't get what you are saying, you like them, or you don't?
Wouldn't the actual mirror have to be a little bit bigger to be able to get a good view? Either way they look really good, and if they work well, maybe I will have to pick some up

No, I love them!

As i said earlier, I've been toying with the idea of moving my stock power mirrors foward.

A bit bigger would be better, but I think the stockers will work okay...
I guess I'll see when I mock it up...

Anybody interested in moving their mirrors up - but worried about usefulness...

Do whatever you think looks the coolest. Then, buy a $15 broadview convex rear view mirror (or a cheaper no namer). It's more useful than both of your side mirrors combined: stock or otherwise.
