Opening Air Vent Solenoid and Mismatched Carb Year Question
Hey everyone, I am trying to get my air vent solenoid to remain open mechanically. I've heard it's possible and I know I can put a 12v signal on it to keep it open but I'd rather mechanically do it as I think the plunger behind the sensor is crap but I'm not sure.
The guy I bought this 81 rx7 from had a carb from 83 on the car for some reason. He gave it to me disassembled from the start, I ended up rebuilding it and had to replace some pieces. I believe I have every part of the carb but I can see that difference in year being a problem for components like that.
Any other pieces I should also be aware of? Should I just get a built carb from eBay for 500-700? I'd like to try and make this work but if I can't it's fine
Are you referring to the single butterfly on the one side of the primary runner?
If so, I haven’t messed with trying to keep that open, but I did machine a nikki intake to accept sleeves of the same size for both sides and then have everything else welded up. Ended up going efi on my 12a. Can send pics if you are interested to see how it was done or if you wanted the “completed” one. The finishing thing it needs is a flycut or block sand on each flange.
edit: the modified intake has the later lower exhaust port and coolant passages blocked off.
For kicks, here’s what I did. The flanges have been rough smoothed down on a belt sander since welding.
