Not sure if you are serious or just having fun with us...

The tranny will shift on its own, but the other positions are there if you want to do it yourself. Basically just a good way to blow up your tranny, in my opinion. Just put it in D and enjoy it.

Check the FSM in the first gen faq if you really want to know.

Welcome to the board jE5s3. If you have only been driving for two months you could'nt have picked a better car to start with. You need to educate your self on basic driving procedures and on basic preventive and scheduled maintenance for your RX-7. Take Daniel's advice and "download" the Factory Service Manual (FSM) in the First Gen "FAQ' section. Being a novice driver you would help to do a search on ebay to see if you can get an "Owners Manual" that came with the car when new. There is a "wealth of information" for a beginning driver and well worth buying if you can find one. Enjoy your "7."

1st and 2nd are very useful when you are stuck in heavy traffic as you tend to be on and off the brakes too often when in D in peak hour traffic...drives ya nuts!, stick it in 1st and just coast along on idle, tapping the brakes occasionally...
