One thing to get more performance?

What is the one simple thing you would do to a completely stock/18,000 original milage 85 RX-7 S that is in mint condition to get the most performance for the buck? Keep in mind that I want to keep it as original as I can or be able to change it back to it's original condition.

RB Streetport exhaust. Sounds SWEET, is quiet when driving normal, and gets a bit louder when you get on it.

The best thing you can do is leave it alone. If you're itching to modify, but another one and mess with it.

Honestly, I would get the Racing Beat exhaust and keep your stock exhaust in the garage in case you ever need to pass an e-test or sell the car as stock.

The RB exhaust has a good sound, unlocks 20-25hp, and is a direct bolt-in, bolt-out deal. It gives the biggest bang for your buck and is reversable.

And nobody will know the difference, unless they know how your car is *supposed* to sound.

To top it all off, it isn't "stupid ricer loud". It's louder than stock, but also more of a bassy sound, so it's not too bad. My friend Eric has it

You can bolt on what ever but I dont feel that the engine can handle more abuse. Its a very high mileage engine so its better save the $$$$ for a new motor.

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far. This car just came out of a pole barn and has been sitting there under cover for 17 years. Well with the exception of being driven once or twice a month to keep the fluids, seals, and hoses in good condition. I was serious when I said 18,000 original. Well 17,918 when I took it out. Where is the best place to get these parts? I saw a K&N filter that lifts the air filter lid to get air from 360 degrees. That was $60.00, would that do any good?

I 2nd the Racing Beat header to tail exhaust. It won't hurt your virgin engine & will let it open up. 15-20 hp gain & a great sound. Your car will thank you.

I would NOT touch a blessed thing! It is worth far more in original shape (unless the body is screwed because of storage).

I have to agree with purple82- buy another beater 1st gen and modify the hell out of it. Leave that baby alone if you can help it!

BTW- this thread is worthless wihout pics!!! Please share!!

Here here. Anybody ever seen the car bubbles that Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories used to sell?

Seriously, an 18,000 mile Rx-7 should be driven but not beaten, you should be able to do anything you need with the car in stock form. You've got a $6000 car there if the paint and interior are in good shape. And unlike most of our cars, the price could conceivably appreciate!

I would actually pay money just to drive a 1st gen in it's most original form again, it's been many years since my car had all of the original parts. If you've got the itch to modify, you can get 1st gens for under $1000.in decent shape and add all the crap you want to it.
