Opinions about suspension

Okay right now in my car (82 gsl) I have tokico struts, and stock springs all around. i want to lower my car and keep performance with new springs. my question is which is the best deal, and which ones you think are better because of personal experience?

choice 1: eibach pro kit (can get for 220)
choice 2: suspension techniques (can get for 184)
choice 3: racingbeat (can get for about 180)

I doubt there are many on this forum who can honestly answer this question. I have the Eibach pro-kit springs and I like 'em but I don't have experience with the other springs to make an honest comparison.

I can't say my RB springs are better because of "personal experience", seeing as Bob is right and I've never experienced any others.

What I CAN say however, is that they have all the attributes I personally am looking for in a spring set. When I went to buy my suspension, I searched the forum and found a bunch of great info about springs and shocks. I decided on RacingBeat because they *are* performance springs, but they are also not as stiff as the others. My goal was to have a suspension setup which would allow me to do some amature autocross, but still be soft enough for me to take my girlfriend out for a cruise in the 7.

I would have bought the tokico adjustible shocks, but due to monetary constraints, I got the KYB GR-2s to mate to my RB SpringSet. You can't really go wrong with RB though, they've done their homework on the rotary-powered cars and have some pretty good products. And their springs are the cheapest

i have suspension techs because i was looking for springs that were as close to stock spring rate as possible...

they just finished settling in and my 7 feels new compared to before...

the shocks, struts, bushings, springs, inner and outter tie rods, and tires were changed out all at once...

I have RB springs and am very happy with them. For ride comfort the car seems happiest running on smooth pavement, and ride-height and comfort are great.

I haven't tried the rest, and can't really comment on those (voted same in poll), but can say that RB has a great product and if you're looking for good performance along with streetability, the RB springs will fit the bill.

Not all springs are created equally, however - so do your homework for the purposes that you're going after,

yea I have RB and think these things are awesome. But like everyone else has said I cannot judge others cause these are the only pair I've driven with.

RB here, and i enjoy them and they dont drop your car too much that its a hassle to drive, improved handling greatly for me...plus i trust RB's products because they've been dealing with rx-7's since day one, and tend to know what they are doing

I've been in mine, (Eibachs Pro), a Racing Beat car, and my old SE had ST.

Racing Beat = UBER STIFF.

I really like my Eibachs with the Illuminas.

The Old ST felt like stock to me.

Really? I wish the RBs I have in back had more stiffness in them, personally. They are a tad too soft for the streets around Big D...but they certainly kickeda$$ over the 22 yr-old stockers that were in Furious...

From my experience:
RB = Sort of stiff
ST = Soft
Eibach = Stiffer then RB

All lower about the same.

i thought the RB springs were okay in my '83 (from the past), but they were NOT stiff enough for me. they were better than the worn out stock crap though. anyway, i've decided to go with Eibach for my '84 (my current car) - right now i'm trying to decide over the Pro Kit or something tailored for my tastes.

i missed one of your posts. you should probably get the RB springs if you don't really want to go too stiff. they ARE performance-oriented, you're probably not going to see much of a drop - at least, i didn't - but you will feel a difference over stock. as i said, it just wasn't much to me.

hm, its such a hard choice. i want the eibachs, but its for street so i dont want to go too stiff. i also dont want to pay an arm and a leg either. i still need to get my e-fan and thermo. i think i need some stiffness though, i'll just have to get used to it. i think i am going with the eibach pro kit. i might order it tomorrow if i'm not too busy! thanks for all your help. you have been great in my quest for springs!

DF, if that "blast from the past" was from the RB catalog like I think it was, there's a big disclaimer regarding their numbers mentioned quite prominently before the rates are given...

The rates on Tociko springs (no longer available) are:

Front springs are progressive at 194
Rear springs are linear at 111.

I've got them. They are too stiff for me. I'm going to switch to RB at some point.

I have ST's and tokico Blues, handles great even given the fact I have a V8 up there. I have some ST sway bars waiting to be put in, I'll give an update when I do.
