Which one is it

How can you tell what model a rex is if it does not have any tags other than the Rx-7 on the sides the year is 81

'81 had a S, GS, and GSL. I don't remember where I found that, but I copy and pasted that into my file of RX-7 facts.

The GSL has limited slip diff and 4 wheel disc brakes. I'm having a brain fart and don't remember anything else.

Sorry, but the truth is out there.....*X-Files theme plays in the background*

well, it depends. does it have rear disk breaks??? if it does, it is a GSL. if it doesnt and it has power mirrors,a nd a sum roof, than its a GS. i am not sure what the GSL-SE identificatations are, but i am sure someone does.

FastENUF, GSL-SE's were only available in '84 and '85. The main difference was they had the fuel injected 13B and also has different style 14" wheels.

...and a different bolt pattern for those wheels, with different (vented) disc brakes, different suspension, LSD, etc...

Hope that is helpful in some way, and if anyone sees any discrepancies, let me know and I will edit my file. (That was a copy and paste, I didn't just type all that.)

Were they available in North America? All these I have were brought to North America. I've heard of the 1980 anniversary edition but I don't think it was available here.

They sure were available here. An 80 anniversary edition was up on ebay a while back, as well as a 79 limited edition. I think someone on this forum may even have a 79 LE. I know someone on the forum who was parting an anniversary edition out a while ago as well.

hokay, got the 1st 3 pages done so far... some of it is pedantic minutae (steering shaft thickness & distortion) but I'm sure someone will be asking these specs again...

79 LE's had different wheels and a digital clock on the gauge cluster, i'm sure there were other differences, but thats all that comes to mind for now.

Just noticed that you missed the 80 Anniversary Edition. Although it's most likely technically similar, it had special paint, Anniversary 'X' badges, and special seats.

Very very nice, Manntis. That's the kind of info I was looking for before I bought my car, but could never find. Keep up the good work!

My guess is a GS....see the brakes up front? Those are discs...do you have similar looking brakes on the back wheels? That would be a dead indicator you've got more than just a GS, try the link the gracious Manntis has provided and see how many of the specs amtch up on your rex...
