One less SA on the roads

An old lady thought it would be a good idea to make a u-turn on a busy road and I had no where to go. No one was injured except for the RX7 The battery was dead after the police finally showed up and I could move it so I dont know if it still runs. But I cant put the shifter into 1st or 2nd, and I think it is stuck in one of those gears. Fender gaps are still the same so I dont know if it bent the subframe too badly, but the hood/fenders/bumper/ etc... are all toast. Havent had a chance to look under the hood but the radiator was leaking so Im guessing its gone too. Oh well. Only had it a few months and I loved every second of it. Very fun car to drive. Here are a couple of pics from the scene...

Unfortuantely you are going to find out that the frame rails are tweaked and that bumper horns (end of frame rails) are pushed up. Unfortunately it also looks like it was an early SA in very good shape. If there is anything I can do let me know I have a few of them.

Man! I hate to see that. I wish you lived near Statesville NC, I have a perfectly good '80 SA sitting beside my garage. Just needs drivetrain and interior. Sorry about your loss.

meh.... what can ya do. I got it for a hell of a deal and it was in good shape. Ran great and was a blast to drive. I was hoping to use it as a track car this summer but there goes that.

You really think so? I think it should be the panels and radiator support.

Don't give up on her yet. Have someone at a frame shop check it out to see if they can pull it back. It looks to be in too good shape to just part it out without trying.

Ill need to wait for insurance and all that crap to go through before I can start tearing into it. But if it can be saved enough to be used as a track car I will.

Ouch!. I wouldn't be surprised to find that the frame is ok. If so, then you will be able to put her back together with no problem.

Thanks for that. There are a couple around here that I have checked out for parts before this so I know there are 7's in the yards around here. Im not doing anything until insurance is figured out.

ya to be honest that's relaly not much damage by the looks of it. Fender (if really bent) could just be bent out easily, hood, bumper, rad and rad support really aren't that expensive to fix. As far as the tranny you can usually pic them up for about 100$ or so if you did wreck a gear in there.

Glad to hear that no one was hurt thought. How fast were you going at the time of impact though?

I hope you can get that fixed. That car looks exactly like mine, right down to the same rims.(first one I've ever seen, now I know at least what center caps were suppose to be on mine.)

Good luck.

At least your rolls. They're gonna need a control arm on that Camry at the least.

I may have to take you up on that. I cant really do anything to it for a couple weeks until I have an idea of what insurance is going to do.
