Talking OMP????? Whatzit wherezit

I believe that the smoke coming from under my hood in the right front may be leakage from the OMP,,,,,,,. How much of a job is it to pull it and replace gaskets? Now go ahead and insult me as dumb ............but I never have had this happen on any of my fb's. Thanks guys. Bob

Easy, just take your time, clean everything good and be careful when unhooking the plastic lines.

bout 5 mins to pull it (bottom bolt is a bitch to find). its a ton easier with the lower rad hose out of the way. if its leaking its prolly not the omp gasket but the o-rings in the omp itself. Lowe's performance in florida sells rebuild kits for $21 shipped
the number is 1-914-924-8597
its part #17 for the 12a omp rebuild kit. it comes with the 3 o-rings that need to be replaced, a new gasket, 2 new ends for the omp lines and pretty good instructions.
i live in arkansas and got mine in two days so living in jackson miss. you should have it pretty quick.

Not a tough thing to do.

Budget an afternoon where you don't need the car. It took me less than an hour once I had the rebuild kit in hand (including a half hour to let the OMP soak in mineral spirits to get it clean).

Do a search for any threads started by brownmound, and look in his sig. There'll be a link to his site where he talks about his car, and there's a writeup of when he did his OMP rebuild.

You can also go to www.mazspeed.com and look in the "Facts" section for an OMP rebuild tutorial.

It's a lot easier than it sounds, just take your time. Sit down at a nice clean spot and take the OMP apart and reassemble with the kit from Lowe's.

Not to throw a fly in the ointment, but I had the EXACT same issue. I was postive it was the OMP, and it turned out to be the oil pan gasket. Somehow the smoke was actually moving forward at an idle and coming up from exactly where the OMP is. Until I took off the undertray, jacked the car up, and let it run long enough for the smoke to start, I couldn't tell it was the oil pan. I was all prepared to pull of the OMP and would have done it for no reason.

Just something to have a quick check of Bob.
