OMP Blockoff Strategies! Share Yours!

Hello Fellas!

I tore the rubber end on one of my OMP lines and saw the price for a new one on Mazdatrix and decided to finally make the jump to Premix. Anyway, in my searches I've seen numerous strategies for blocking off, or disabling the OMP. I really like the idea of having a separate reservoir for the injected oil, but it's cheaper and easier just to run MMO with the gas. SO........

How has everyone that runs MMO with their gas, disabled the OMP? I'm basically wanting to remove the whole OMP and block off the hole, but I can't find anywhere to buy a blockoff plate at. Does anyone sell them? I would make one, but I'm not sure I have the tools to make anything that will work effectively.

When you guys make your own plates out of aluminum how are you doing it? Are you machining it? I don't have access to a mill so I can't machine any plates.

Basically where can I buy one of these plates, or learn how to make one? Machining is out of the question for me. I can do it, but don't have a mill to use to make the plate on.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

Jamie

I think Corksport or Mazdatrix sell a blockoff plate. If not both then one or the other.

Ive though about it for a little, if your in my case without it broken yet, I might rig lines to inject it back into my oil cap. I'll find something that fits the neck and drill a hole, put a fitting in, and there you go. If theres 2 lines that run out then i'll put a T on it too. If your thinking about doing it, just find some brake fittings and go from there.

I've looked on the Mazdatrix site and haven't found any OMP blockoff plates. Can anyone veryify if they do or don't have it? I'm almost 95% sure Mazdatrix doesn't carry them....

Mazda Motorsports carries a blockoff plate for 12a's.

I just gutted mine and JB Welded the holes and put it back on. No leaking so far...

I removed the OMP.

A Volkswagon Type 4 flathead engine fuel pump block off plate installed upside down with High Pressure Red RTV Silicone.

Needs longer bolts, bought mine from PepBoys.

I made a 1/8" thick 1" wide steel plate and put that under the bolts and fender washers. What this does is it causes the bolts to not just tighten down the ends of the block off plate, but the whole plate from top to bottom.

Use LOTS of Red RTV, even on the bolts.

You can buy the fuel pump block off plate from:

OMP Blockoff Plates

I used one of these for a TII engine but don't know if they have them for 12a's (call em):

K2RD

For a FI car you should also remove the oil injectors and the vacuum lines to them.

I ended up using 10Mx1.25 hex socket head bolts, had to cut them to like 15 mm long but they worked real nice--have a small footprint in the manifold area.

You have to be a member though. I make my own block offs with some Aluminum sheet from the scrap yard and a hack saw and drill. its easy. Take off the OMP and get a piece of paper to trace the sfc. of the omp cut a ruff shape out of aluminum with the saw and file if needes. use the same bolts with RTV and whala, no more POS leaking OMP.

I used some short Mazda style bolts for my oil injector holes. They seem to go better with the rest of the engine.

oh. well yeah i used bolts for the oil injectors, but for the oil metering pump i used a little metal plate, squared, its aluminum or somethin i donno. i think its actually to hold in the fuel injector plugs, but i dont know. it works great as an OMP blockoff hehehe :-D

Re: OMP Blockoff Plates

Anyone know if the picture of the TII blockoff plate above will work for my 12A? It says on their site that it is for 13B mechanical style OMPs. Which, if I'm not mistaken is what is on the 12A's right? Can anyone verify if that plate is the correct shape for a 12A blockoff application?

Thanks for all your suggestions so far!

I have no idea where it's at on my 12a. If someone can direct me in the proper place, I can make a block off plate pretty darned cheap for you. Pic would be great of what needs to be blocked off.

Here's a side view of an OMP on a 12A. Mine's an '85. I think the OMPs were the same on 84-85 and different on previous years, but you'll have to have someone else confirm that. Anyone for sure about that?

The OMP is down pretty low on the front of the engine, about in the middle of the rad. Has two clear plastic lines coming off of it that run up past the waterpump to the side of the carb where oil is injected. I believe the OMP comes off with two 10mm bolts? Not sure 'cause I haven't taken mine off yet.

If you could make some inexpensive blockoff plates for the 84-85 12A OMPs that would be awesome.

The plates would need to be the same shape as them pump on that web page. It looks like they are close in shape. If you bought one for a s4, i doubt it would take much work to make it fit, if any.

If the pump isn't leaking, you could always just leave the pump and lines installed but remove the connecting rod.

I built my own fuel injector plugs from Mazda bolts wiyh damaged threads inserted into some 3/8" or whatever fuel line. Then a little Hylomar to top it off. If ever get into FI, I'll need new seals anyway, so sealing them up like I did was ok.

I agree with inittab. The OMP will continue to 'pump' oil. Just leave it on the engine at its lowest setting and go ahead and premix.

theres a gear inside the omp you can just take out then run a 2 inch bit of vacuum line in a U shape to cap both the lines. stays sealed and doesnt try to pump anything.

of course, i have also just taken a cut-off wheel to my OMP on another car. just cut off everything leaving the flange to be bolted back on the car. fill in the center hole where the pump mechanicals used to be with some JB weld. works like a charm for me. never had a leak using this method on my TII. im cheap as hell, so i used the cut and JB weld method on almost all my block off plates.... although having been to the metal shop since then, a bit of aluminum wouldnt really cost much.

Gid I wish I started this thread a month ago. I just went through this, I tried several times to make my own block off plate, all of them leaked. I ended up putting my OMP back on. I cut the lines off and caped them. Used a new o ring (o ring for GSL-SE OMP, gasket for u 12a guys), and doesnt drip at all.

Well, mine is a 1980 12a so i'm not sure if it will be the exact same. If someone can confirm this, I'll be yanking mine off tommorrow and trying to get some plates started.

Ok,

So can anyone confirm if the OMPs between 1st gen years are different or are all the 12A OMPs the same?

Secondly, does anyone have any pics of a gutted OMP? How exactly do you go about gutting one of these things? Just start taking stuff off until it is an empty case and then plug all the holes? I was sort of hoping to keep my OMP in case I ever ended up needing it for some reason. Which is why i'm looking for a block off plate in the first place. :-)

Yes the OMP is a bit different in style's threw the 1st Gens. But they have the same Bolt-up Patterns as per how there mounted.

So any Block Off Plate will bolt up that you can Trace off the original mount.

Go Aluminum, Trace the outline of the OMP Gasket to include the 2 Bolts and grind & drill till you have an exact match.
Seal the New Gasket (Both Sides) and Rock on.
No Moo OMP.

Good Luck.

Where can you get a small block of aluminum at? How much would it cost me for a really little piece, say... 4in X 3in. I've got a grinder and never thought about just hogging off the extra material. Good idea. Aluminum sucks on the grinder though, really clogs up the grinding wheel. Oh Well...

So where does an ignorant Hoosier purchase a piece of aluminum and how much does it cost him?

Thanks for the help so far all!
