I've actually been there once. My oldest sister was stationed at the air base. Would have been about 1983 or 84. There used to be a nice BMX track there. I wouldnt worry about mods to the car if it runs good until you have had it for a while. Also, by living in California you need to be careful with what you do to it. As I understand, most if not all California requires emission testing. If you do things like remove the rats nest you won't be able to pass the test. Personally I would say the first thing you need to do is get a repair manual and any book you can find concering 1st genereation RX-7's. You'll never learn any younger.
