oil temp gauge - tapping the banjo bolt
Hi chaps
am about to tap the bolt for the rear oil line so that i can screw in the oil temp sender.
i notice it wil protrude quite a bit into the bolt.
for those of you that have done this, did you find it slowed down your oil flow in some way ? i don;t know how you would pick this up though...a pick up in oil pressure perhaps ?

I wouldn't advise putting a temp unit in the banjo bolt. It will likely restrict the flow, and starve the engine for oil.
Putting an oil pressure sensor in this location is fine, as that will not restrict the flow.

I have to disagree with you. There is nothing wrong for hooking up the line in the rear banjo bolt. In fact, its in the repair manual and this is where Cartech recommended to hook up the turbo oil feed.
Be sure to use apply a dab of lock-tite to secure it.

my bad!!! craig was referrring to oil temp, not oil pressure. There is a way to do it but it will be ugly. So just buy the RB or REspeed under the filter block.

I agree with the RB/RESpeed pedistle, but I think the RESpeed block has issues with some oil temp units. Before buying the RESpeed unit, get with billy to insure it will work with the oil temp unit in question. I suspect it would likely work, since the sensor is small enough to have fit in the banjo bolt.

[QUOTE=wackyracer]So just buy the RB or REspeed under the filter block.
Wacky nailed it with "under the filter block".
The block works the same as the RB block. It has a 3/8 NPT tapped hole for a mechanical temp sender.
Our pedestals have 1/8 NPT tapped holes that work with electric temp senders.

i hear you guys with the pedestal block. unfortunately i am in cape town, SA so will most likely have to include it with a bigger shopping bag from mazdatrix.
was just looking for a quick/easy solution
unless of course some of you have made your own block and can post the specs
