Oil Reservoir

Yes, I did search for a while, but couldn't find this. I am new to the rotary thing, and have a simple question. I have located a reservoir on the firewall of the passenger side of my 85 GS. It appears to have oil in it. Is this for the metering pump, and what oil do I put in there?

Post a picture, please.

Does the reservoir look OEM or aftermarket?

Here's some pics. It is under the washer fluid reservoir, and one of the hoses from the top of it runs directly to the carburator(sp?).

I have read all over this forum and every other outlet I have and have learned quite alot about this special car. It is my first rotary, and this reservoir is there for a reason and it is almost empty. So I have to know what the deal is, I love this car and can't have anything happen to it b/c of my own ignorance.

Thanks

This is looking down from above the washer fluid.

This is looking from front of car under washer fluid.

"Sub Zero Fluid"

What is this and what goes in there. I am in SC and it is 100 today, never below zero. Do I need to fill this up with what?

With air. You don't need it. Remove if it is in the way. Or leave it alone if it doesn't bother you.

Look up "sub zero start assist." It is basically a tank that is filled with ethylene glycol (antifreeze). When you try to start the car in cold weather, the tank is supposed to give you a shot of glycol into the carb. I've never seen one that works, and frankly I don't see how injecting antifreeze into the carb makes the car easier to start. Don't worry about it being empty. I know that it is against your nature to have a low fluid and not fill it up, but in this case it REALLY IS pointless to fill that tank up. The majority of us literally rip that thing out, cap the lines on the carb, and chuck it in the trash.

Thanks for the help GlazedHam. that's exactly what I wanted to know.

When I rip out the air pump and stuff I will rip it out too.
