Oil pressure VS Small oil cooler lines?

Hey guys, On my recent rebuild I'm getting about 65 PSI max at about 3 and a half grand and any higher up it drops to 60. I'm also getting a decent 25 PSI at idle, and I'm using a Mechanical gauge so i know its accurate. I had the exact same problem before i rebuilt the engine. In this new engine i have a new oil pump, and Modified oil pressure regulator to allow for up to 80 PSI. I also am using a second gen oil cooler. My question is would running oil lines with a thinner I.D. than the stock lines create less flow, and a oil pressure loss like i am experienceing? My current custom made lines are fairly thinner compaired to the Stock lines. Would it be benificial also to get thicker I.D. lines than stock if i have to replace them?

Thanks, Matt

I think the ID of the new lines are 3/8. Or should i be looking for a different problem area?

Are the oil pressure readings the same warm/cold, and what weight oil?

That will bring it up, especially cold. I hit 100 on 10w30 and 125 on 20w50, cold. Still goes down to 50-75 psi warm, above 3k. I have the RB opr too.

I added washers to an adjustable OPR in a recent rebuild and test cranked it with 20w50. I cranked it on and off for a while until it started showing some pressure. Then I cranked it on and off a few more times and watched it pass the 50 psi mark on the guage. Gulp.

The old engine wouldn't go much past 60.

I would give it a try, i'ts fairly simple/easy and doesn't require opening anything up. If that doesn't work, then I would drop the oil pan and check both oil regulators.

Could the rear oil pressure regulator cause this, because i didn't touch it during the rebuild.

The rear one is what controls oil pressure, the front one is a relief vavle. You said you modified the opr, that should be the rear one.

My appologies, I did modify the rear one, sorry i got a bit confused there. The question should be if the relief valve could cause this problem?

Front one is a possible candidate.

Went for a boot tonight and i had some questions. first off the oil pressure at 6 grand on the highway dropped to about 50-55 PSI, and also i think my temps are a little on the low side, The coolant was 160 degrees, and the oil temps were staying at 145-150. Are these temps ok, i'm running a cooler thermostat and a second gen oil cooler.

If its a real modded ROPR, the oil pressure shouldn't drop below 60 when hot.

with the smaller ID oil cooler lines, no clue.

With all my cars and most installs, I get the lines replaced with stock end fittings to save $$$. Thats roughly $70 vs $110+ for steelbraided/inlet fittings.

oil pressure

What was the reason? Anyone figure it out. I have the same problem! New oil pump and added a second cooler, but I didn't touch the regulator. My cars showing like 60PSI at idle and goes down slightly on accereration? WTF? I talked to many people and they said if it was the regulator mostly likey it wouldn't have much pressure at all. Can someone please verify this.

60 PSI @ idle using stock oil pressure gauge OR aftermarket mechanical.
