oil pressure up and down

i got an 85 gsl-se. it had good constant oil pressure and then on day i noticed it was dropping down to 0 then back up to 60. it does this all the time now except some times it stays at 0 and jumps to 20. i was wondering if the pump is going bad or mayber the sending unit. i havent drove it since it started jumping around. i just start it and let it idle and it bounces around and doesnt change if you rev it up. thanks

There is a small condensor that the other sender wire connects that could be bad but it's probably the wire at the sender needs cleaned.

Mine does the same thing. I replaced the sending unit twice and still no luck. I am starting to think it has something to do with the condinsor wire that is broken off. This condinsor is on top of the engine just in front of the transmission. I was wondering if I could just ground the wire that broke off of the condinser? Anybody?

Thats one possibility. The other is a poor engine to body ground and/or a poor sender to engine ground. You cant use teflon tape or any other thread sealant unless your careful to make sure that at least some of the senders threads make good metal to metal contact with the engine threads. It needs this ground path to function correctly. More resistance = lower gauge readings and possible fluctuations more than normal.

Any evidence of SU leaks? Mine did the same thing about 3 weeks ago. After cleaning up the sender and running the engine for a few minutes, a film of oil appeared around the rubber ring under the connector post. Replaced the SU and all is well.
