Oil Pressure Spike

Just swapped in a different motor in my SE. Not a new or rebuilt one, but used with around 100 k on it. While cranking to start it up, the oil pressure pegs all the way to the right. I think the oil pressure sender on this motor is bad, but what other more sinister possibilities could it be? Any possible internal engine issues to consider? Thanks in advance for any bad news, I'm used to it with this car.

Changed out the sender and the problem disappeared. Thank goodness.

When swapping motors, it's always a good idea to take the known-good oil pressure sender (and sometimes temp sending units) from your existing engine and install them on the new engine. At least then you should expect consistent readings and anything out of place will be apparent as a mechanical issue on the replacement engine.

Good that you found it, and best of luck with the new install.
