Unhappy Oil Pressure doing wierd things. Please Help.

Normally my Oil Pressure is around 55 -60 PSI when hot and at 4000 RPM.

last friday when I was going to work, my car did not heat up at all, as in theheater was blowing cold air, an the temp ggue didnt come off the coldest mark on the gague. It was about 45 miles so I know that my car should have been warm. It always does get warm, but not this time. That evening when I drove home the car got up to its normal temp, but My oil Pressure is now rather high. when te car is fully warm, going 5th gear 45 mph 3500 rpm my oil is a 65-70 psi. If I try to rev it over 5000 the prssure jumps to over 100PSI and my needle hits its stop mark at 0 PSI.

Does any one know wht the hell might be going wrong? This is just one more of a series of little things that are pissing me off about this car.

Please help.

Mike

Did you phyically feel the hoses going into the heater core? If they were warm, that will tell you one thing. Next did you feel the radiator and other parts to see if they were warm or hot at all?

IT sounds like 2 problems at once, but can't say without more information. Your oil pressure reference signal may be screwed up maybe. There is a small cylinder shaped thing with a wire coming out of it which is near the back of the engine...that thing may be faulty. IT compares the resistance in the oil pressure sender unit to a abritary resistence to arive at a reading in the cars gauge. If the resistance in that unit is wrong, your gauge will give a wrong reading...

The not warming up just sounds your thermostat is stuck open. Easy fix. At least it isnt stuck closed like mine was.

Sorry should have told you guys, its a Mechanical AutoMeter gague. that littleCylindrical thingy dont do anything any more.

as to feeling the hoses, no I was unning late so i diddnt spend to much time doing that. Jut let my car idle for about 5 mins, jumped in and took off. Normally whenI do this it is nice and warm. But this one time.... well It is odd.

The hating thinng I really aint worried aout. Im pretty sure that t was just my T.Sat stuck open. What orries me is my oil pressure. Ill check my t stat when I install my front mount air oil cooler. but imstill curious about the pressure.

Do you alll think it is safe to drive it? Now it is just a 12 mile drive to work nd I ait gettin crazy with it. I keep the pressure under 100. Hell Idont use myTach any ore o shift. I watch my Oil Pressure gague and shift by it!
